Re: EBW - Earthbound Wrestling

Apple Kid: Welcome to another week of EBW on X! It's the fastest growing presence on social media! Who needs television! We have the world watching us right here on X, and I would personally like to thank X's new owners the Geist Corporation for hosting us and allowing us to be unrestricted, as we rebuild EBW into the global force it deserves to be, without all that..."havoc" weighing us down?

Larry Grim: Of course we don't want to spend all of our time talking badly about the competition, especially when we're trying to build up our big shows. That would be extremely counter productive. Who would do such a thing? We have to be ALL IN on EBW, and not be mentioning other stuff.

Apple Kid: Great point, skeleton friend! We don't need to mention them anyways, because some contracts came up and WE snapped them up, PLUS we have the E1 Climax ahead of us! We had a lot of the top stars wanting a shot at the most prestigious tournament in wrestling, but it's a smaller field this year, and we ended up with an elite list. Would you like to see who we've got? Let's take a look!

Block A
-------

Trevor Mach
Kinniku Mike
Tack Angel
Benjamin

Block B
-------

Bashin Dan
Zyro Kurogane
Jammer
Vargas Wargrave

Larry Grim: That's a stacked E1 Climax! It's an elite class, including the EBW Champion, who managed to defend the championship against Trevor Mach...with help from The Auditor.

Apple Kid: But if you look at the line up, we have some amazing match ups coming your way on the E1 Climax Tour! We'll be traveling to Hanta City, Arcadia City, Metro City, and Avalon City. So many cities! You're not going to want to miss these shows, but we have some great match ups for you tonight. In fact, I'm need some confirmation on this one. Are we really doing this?

Larry Grim: Yes we are, Apple friend. It's time to rebuild a women's division. This was a big goal for the bosses, especially Tali, who wants to keep the legacy alive that Master Lu helped build with capable and confident women talent mixing it up in the EBW ring! Darkness Aoi is here, not just as a manager for BDSM. She wants a piece of the act-

Darkness Aoi: Action. Absolutely. I'm hungry. I want some competition! I want to hurt some people! I want to stake my claim as the one to defeat in EBW, and no one you can put up against me will be able to match u-

Christy Angel: ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?

Darkness Aoi: Wha?

Apple Kid: Christy Angel! She's the Super Champion! What is she doing here?

Larry Grim: She has signed a brand new contract with EBW!

Apple Kid: Unreal! But wait...does that mean-

Alison Chains: *licks Apple Kid*

Apple Kid: AH!

Alison Chains: You don't taste like apple at all!

Apple Kid: Apple cider vinegar...I'm...told I taste like apple cid-

Alison Chains: Neat! Don't care! Christy! We going to beat Aoi's ass now?!

Tack Angel: Whoa! Hold on! Wait a minute! What's going on here?! Christy?! Daughter!?

Tack Angel: What are you doing in EBW? I thought you were-

Christy Angel: Super Champion? I was. I was the Super Champion. I did what even Christina hadn't done. I beat Hope and I became the Super Champion. The problem? It wasn't the EBW Super Championship any more. I wanted to be seen as someone who truly did something more than just gaming and goon- goofing around. To me, that's being a champion of EBW. So the first chance I got, I signed with Tali and Mac, and I tossed that Super Championship in the trash! EBW's got the Gamer Girlz full time! We're back! You want to wrestle, bitch? Let's wrestle!

Alison Chains: Yeah! Let's wrestle!

Christy Angel: No, I'M going to wrestle.

Alison Chains: Oh! Right. Proceeeeeed.

EBW on X
EBW Studio, Onett
X

1. Women's Singles: Darkness Aoi vs. Christy Angel
-Darkness Aoi entered the match with her usual confidence, clearly treating Christy Angel as little more than another name standing between BDSM and complete control of EBW. Christy had other ideas with her shocking arrival to the new EBW. The opening exchange caught Aoi completely off guard as Christy matched her speed, slipped out of a wristlock, and sent the BDSM co-leader stumbling through the ropes with a sharp dropkick. Aoi landed on her feet outside and immediately looked furious that Christy had managed to embarrass her.

Christy kept the pressure on whenever Aoi returned, scoring with a quick arm drag and nearly stealing the match with a sudden cradle. Aoi kicked out and rolled outside again, pacing around ringside while Christy motioned for her to come back. After several seconds, Aoi climbed onto the apron as though she intended to continue, only for Christy to rush her and force her to drop back to the floor.

That was apparently enough for Darkness Aoi. She stared at Christy, looked toward the referee, and simply threw her hands into the air. With the count climbing, Aoi turned around and started walking toward the back. Christy seemed almost confused at first before realizing exactly what was happening. The referee reached ten as Aoi disappeared through the curtain, handing Christy Angel an unexpected but completely legitimate victory over one of EBW's most dangerous competitors.
Winner: Christy Angel via Count Out!

Apple Kid: Christy wins! Darkness Aoi just gave up! She just left!

Larry Grim: She's not happy that she was surprised by Christy's arrival!

Apple Kid: She likes to have everything figured out, but how can you do that when a girl is willing to throw away the Super Championship to make the jump to the NEW EBW!?

Larry Grim: Well, I'm being told right now that the Gamer Girlz will officially be on the E1 Climax Tour, as BDSM is calling up Sharkette to provide opposition in Hanta City. In fact, I have the whole card for the first show, and we're going to reveal it....RIGHT NOW!

EBW: E1 Climax Tour
Geist Arena, Hanta City

1. Women's Singles: Christy Angel vs. Sharkette
2. E1 Climax Block A: Benjamin vs. Kinniku Mike
3. E1 Climax Block B: Bashin Dan vs. Zyro Kurogane
4. E1 Climax Block B: Jammer vs. Vargas Wargrave
5. EBW Tag Team Championship: Java Coffington(c)/Grind(c) vs. Snakebite/Harrow
6. E1 Climax Block A: Trevor Mach vs. Tack Angel

Larry Grim: No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Trevor Mach versus Tack Angel will headline the show in Hanta City. We're starting off with a mammoth main event for the E1 Climax Tour!

Apple Kid: Wow! The whole show looks amazing. You have to wonder how Tack feels about that? Let's find out

Tick: I'm Tick!

Tock: I'm Tock!

Tack Angel: Uh...I'm Tack?

Tick, Tock, and Tack: Like a clock!

Tack Angel: Whoa, how did I know to do that?

Tick: Tack!

Tack Angel: Yes, I'm Tack.

Tock: It's amazing we've never been in a room like this before!

Tack Angel: Indeed. *looks at the camera* Twins. *wink*

Tick: You have a lot going on, it is understandable if you don't have time to talk to us about it, but if you want to stick around and build clocks with us, we could-

Tack Angel: No, I've got the situation well in hand. Daughter, you made a bold choice. We're not going to drag this out. I'm happy to see you. With Makoto in semi-retirement for now and Christina raising her child, you and I are the Angel representatives. You made a choice, now let's see you play it out. I have issues with some of the things going on in the new EBW, but one of those things isn't Trevor Mach. Friendship has always trumped ideologies or arguments. He's my friend, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to try my best to go through him on my way to Kinniku Mike. He picked a fight with the Star Prince. It's about time I remind everyone about the year where that was considered a horrible idea. Yeah, it got ugly, but I have the fight in me, and I have that confidence in me, and I have the ability to rebuild an empire if I choose, and if Mike wants to become a victim of that, I'll oblige him. This time, I've got a clear head. I see the path ahead of me. I know what I'm doing, and I have a plan. I'm leaning into the joke...as it were.

Tock: Leaning into the joke? What do you mean?

Tack Angel: You'll find out.

-

Larry Grim: A very Tack Angel centric episode today

Apple Kid: Popular guy. Controversial too. Could he be going back to his old ways? The 5-Crown King who built an empire?

Larry Grim: I don't know about that, but I do know his match with Kinniku Mike will be the main event for the next match on the E1 Climax Tour. Let's take a look at THAT card!

EBW: E1 Climax Tour
Clockwork Colosseum, Arcadia City

1. 6-Man Tag: Magnum PT/Point Man/? vs. Daimon Kuro/Shark #1/Shark #2
2. E1 Climax Block A: Benjamin vs. Trevor Mach
3. E1 Climax Block B: Bashin Dan vs. Jammer
4. E1 Climax Block B: Zyro Kuroane vs. Vargas Wargrave
5. Non-Title Singles: Ness vs. Boomtown
6. E1 Climax Block A: Tack Angel vs. Kinniku Mike

Apple Kid: Another stellar card! Wow! We're going all out for the E1 Climax!

Larry Grim: We want to restore wrestling to Eagleland, not that stuff you're seeing from the other guys. This is the true elite giving you real entertainment, and you have to be there for it! Arcadia City, don't miss it! Next up, we have Dan Club in action, as they take on The Auditor's monsters in tag action!

Apple Kid: Let's do this!

2. Tag: Bashin Dan/Benjamin vs. Harrow/Snakebite
-Bashin Dan and Benjamin came into the match looking much more organized than Harrow and Snakebite expected. Benjamin took the early punishment from Snakebite but repeatedly frustrated the larger man by slipping free and making quick tags. Once Bashin Dan entered, the pace changed immediately. Dan rocked Snakebite with a series of strikes before catching Harrow coming through the ropes and sending him back to the floor.

Harrow and Snakebite eventually managed to isolate Benjamin, cutting him off from his corner and wearing him down with rough tags and plenty of punishment whenever the referee's back was turned. Benjamin survived long enough to dive between them and finally reach Dan. Bashin Dan exploded into the match, dropping Harrow before knocking Snakebite from the apron and building enough momentum that the match appeared to be swinging decisively in his team's favor.

Before Dan could finish Harrow, The Auditor suddenly appeared at ringside. The distraction was enough to bring EBW Champion Vargas Wargrave charging into the ring behind Dan. Vargas blasted him from behind, and The Auditor joined the attack almost immediately. The referee called for the bell as Harrow and Snakebite abandoned any pretense of continuing the match and joined Vargas and The Auditor in putting the boots to Dan and Benjamin.
Winners: Bashin Dan/Benjamin via DQ

Larry Grim: Oh come on! The EBW Champion made his move, and he's putting the boots to Dan, but look, here comes Trevor Mach and Jammer!

Apple Kid: They're in the there fighting off the monsters!

Trevor Mach: And there they go! Hit and run! Hit and run! I'm sick of it! I know someone else who is too! Tell 'em Dan-o!

Bashin Dan: He's right! With the NEW EBW I was hoping we'd be done with all of this! I'm not subscribed to the mind set that the paying customers only get the best matches. I pour my blood, sweat, and tears into every battle! That's why they call me the Dangerous Player! Vargas Wargrave, a long time veteran of the indies, King of VBW and what not. You'd figure with a reputation like that you'd try to uphold it, but we're not seeing a lot of that tonight. Darkness Aoi turned tail and ran from Christy, and now you can't let Harrow and Snakebite take the L? I suggest you get another deck, because if that's the best you can do, then when I ultimately challenge you for that title when I win the E1, you're in for a-

Trevor Mach: Alright Dan, I love the fire, but I'm winning the E1, son. I meant son in a general sense...not a...you and my daughter...sense. *gags* We're not talking about that.

Bashin Dan: You lost the title and you lost the rematch. With all due respect, Trevor...step aside.

Trevor Mach: Oh ho ho. This is what I've been waiting for. Danny boy, I want you to make it to the finals. I will see you there! Either way, it's bad news for the "Monster Squad".

-

The EBW World screen flickered through a burst of pink static before snapping into a sugary animated intro filled with stars, hearts, and smiling little mascots. A cheerful jingle played for several seconds before Mimi Starlight bounced into frame, waving both hands enthusiastically at the camera. Her pastel hair practically glowed beneath the studio lights.

Standing several feet behind her was a complete contrast.

The enormous masked man remained perfectly still in his black work gear, his shoulders rising and falling with every slow, heavy breath. Even through the mask, there was something unmistakably hostile about the way he stared into the camera.

Mimi clasped her hands beneath her chin.

Mimi Starlight: Hiiiiiiii, EBW! Mimi Starlight here! Your favorite digital idol, professional ray of sunshine, and soon to be newest member of the EBW family! Yay!

A little animated star graphic popped beside her head.

Behind her, Graveshift breathed heavily.

Mimi Starlight: And I didn't come alone! Everyone, I would like you to meet somebody extremely important to me. My very special friend... Graveshift!

She stepped aside and presented him with both hands.

Graveshift stared forward.

Graveshift: .....

Mimi smiled brightly.

Mimi Starlight: He's saying hello!

Graveshift slowly turned his head toward a stagehand walking somewhere off camera.

The stagehand immediately stopped moving.

Graveshift's breathing became noticeably louder.

Mimi Starlight: Graveshift!

His head instantly turned back toward Mimi.

The breathing softened.

Mimi Starlight: Be nice. We're making friends today.

Graveshift stared at her.

Graveshift: .....

Mimi nodded seriously.

Mimi Starlight: Thank you.

She turned back toward the camera as if absolutely nothing unusual had happened.

Mimi Starlight: Graveshift doesn't talk very much. Actually, Graveshift doesn't talk at all. But that's okay, because communication comes in lots of different forms! Sometimes friendship is about understanding the things somebody doesn't say.

A production assistant accidentally knocked something over nearby.

Graveshift's entire body stiffened.

His fists slowly clenched.

Graveshift: .....

Mimi glanced over her shoulder.

Graveshift looked at her.

Several seconds passed.

His fists unclenched.

Mimi gave the camera a satisfied little thumbs up.

Mimi Starlight: See? He's a sweetheart. So EBW, get ready! Mimi Starlight and Graveshift are officially coming to EarthBound Wrestling! I'm going to make lots of friends, sing lots of songs, meet all your wonderful wrestlers, and spread happiness everywhere I go!

Behind her, Graveshift stared directly into the lens.

His breathing grew louder.

Graveshift: .....

-

Apple Kid: HOLY SHIT!

Larry Grim: I know...idol types, am I right?

Apple Kid: What?!

Larry Grim: Well it's time for the main event, and I'm not sure what we have in store for you. I know Picky is ready to go, but who is he facing? We weren't told-

Larry Grim: Whoa! What?!

Apple Kid: It's BOOMTOWN!? BOOMTOWN IS HERE!

Larry Grim: Zyro-K isn't going to be happy.

3. Singles: Boomtown vs. Picky
-Boomtown immediately turned the match into his personal highlight reel, dodging Picky's opening attack before hitting the ropes and coming back with a spinning kick that nearly knocked him out of his boots. Picky tried slowing him down with a headlock, but Boomtown escaped, vaulted over him, and landed on his feet before striking an exaggerated pose for the EBW Studio crowd. Picky charged him out of frustration and ran directly into another flashy counter.

From there, Boomtown controlled virtually everything. He mixed speed with showmanship, hitting a springboard attack, a running knee, and an unnecessary but extremely well received cartwheel purely because he could. Picky managed one brief comeback after catching Boomtown celebrating too early, but even that lasted only a few seconds. Boomtown ducked a clothesline, spun Picky around, and planted him in the center of the ring.

The crowd knew what was coming. Boomtown backed into the corner, waited for Picky to struggle to his knees, and hit Here Comes the Boom!

1-2-3!
Winner: Boomtown via Here Comes the Boom! -> Pin

Larry Grim: Amazing! Boomtown is here and he made short work of the work horse. Incredible! What's going to happen going forward? Well the E1 of course! The tour begins this week! We'll see you there! You never know WHAT'S going to happen in EBW! Buh bye!

Re: EBW - Earthbound Wrestling

Boomtown: Did ya miss me, EBW? Boomtown's here baby, and the Influencer of your dreams has been given the honor and privilege to tell you all about the E1. Did I make that sound like I was truly honored? Well it's bullshit, because Boomtown isn't IN the E1! I know you think the cards were already made up before I signed, but this was coming down the pipeline for WEEKS! Boomtown HAD to be here online, on X, where Influencers dwell, so I could get myself out from under the yolk of the other guys I'm not supposed to talk about! He's it's just EBW, and EBW means the best, so I HAD to be here. What? You think I'm killing time? That's because I am. Put me in the place of any of these guys. Kinniku Mike is back? Hide your wives! I'd make a good replacement for any of those Dan Club clowns. Years and years of the same bullshit! Dan plays cards, Jammer is bad at basketball, and Benjamin refuses to assimilate. It's been done to DEATH! I mean if I drove my sweet tank to the ring EVERY WEEK, it would lose luster. I save it for the special moments, which are any moments I feel like MAKING special. I guess we'll get to it though. I hear people are saying that EBW is keeping the spirit of wrestling alive, while everyone else seems to be forgetting how to "work". Christy Angel popped in after realizing she couldn't cut it as a mega star apparently. Hey, if I had the Super Championship, I'd still be employed elsewhere perhaps. You never know. She beat Sharkette easily with the Angel Wings. Good for her. Whatever. Chat, if you think she should get more risqué on OnlyMarks, hit a like and subscribe. She's something. I mean she's got a Bi- GREAT ASS! Benjamin and Kinniku Mike had a match too. What do you want me to say about it? I'm not going to glaze these guys. Get the autistic twins in here because-

Ted Pettentool: Hey hey, hold on there! I'll take care of it! I should've started because Alison is back in EBW too, and you know what that means. The two have been at my house raiding my fridge and playing video games, so I could've gone into more detail about the match, but I'm here now.

Boomtown: And we're all thrilled about it, right chat?

Ted Pettentool: ...Who is chat?

Boomtown: Don't worry about it.

Ted Pettentool: You also missed the incredible introductions, where the trophy was presented, and all of the fighters came out to a huge ovation.

Ted Pettentool: This is a smaller event in terms of  the number of fighters, but every single match is a dream match. Every match will be important. Every match matters. A fantastic match between Benjamin and Kinniku Mike was ruined by Darkness Aoi who attacked Benjamin and allowed Mike to choke out Benji with the Rear Naked.

Boomtown: Just glad he wasn't actually naked.

Ted Pettentool: Bashin Dan next up took on-

Boomtown: Zyro...Kurogane.

Ted Pettentool: Oh...right. You guys don't get along.

Boomtown: To say we don't co-exist well...is an understatement. That bitch can't handle the BOOM!

Ted Pettentool: Well this was considered something of a dream match, and he was able to handle Bashin Dan. He escaped an attempted Brave Clash and hit the Let it Rip and the Straight Jacket Hagen for the pinfall victory!

Boomtown: Lucky fluke. I was actually rooting for the card autist on that one.

Ted Pettentool: Jammer took on the current EBW Champion Vargas Wargrave after tha-

Boomtown: Where the hell did that guy come from? An agent for The Auditor? Let me tell you something. I did work with The Auditor, and I did work with Jamie OD, and MAYBE....maybe Sal Paradise was right and the evidence finally came out after Victory Explosion that that Jamie OD was truly meant for Hell, but you can't put all of that on me. I did what I had to do, and I've broken off. You won't find me working with The Auditor this time, make no mistake of that, chat.

Ted Pettentool: I'm Ted.

Boomtown: You sure are.

Ted Pettentool: It was indeed The Auditor's Champion that won this one, rolling out of the way of the Slam Jam, and pinned Jammer after a Warhammer. The champ wants to win the E1 while holding the title.

Boomtown: The honor would be wasted on him. I'll do it next year.

Ted Pettentool: The Auditor's successful night would continue in the next match, as Rise and Grind lost the EBW Tag Team Championships to the duo of Snakebite and Harrow. A devastating team, they now hold all but the X Championship in the NEW EBW.

Boomtown: Don't worry, that one is going to me.

Ted Pettentool: You're getting ahead of the recap! We had a stellar main event that you can't pass up. Friends. Rivals. Pillars. They carry two different ideals into everything it seems and yet they're still Mega Dudes through and through. Trevor Mach took on Tack Angel in the main event, and it seemed like this one might go the distance. A pure wrestling classic.

Boomtown: I'll admit it. It was impressive. They still got it. They don't got what I got, but what they got was alright.

Ted Pettentool: It came down to Trevor getting desperate with an attempted Burning Machismo, which Tack escaped from and landed his signature kicks and the WRIST CLUTCH Heaven Driver for the 1-2-3! Tack Angel's regained confidence led him to one of the bigger wins he's had in quite some time.

Boomtown: Yeah. Good for him. Whatever. Next!

EBW: E1 Climax Tour
Geist Arena, Hanta City

1. Women's Singles: Christy Angel vs. Sharkette
Winner: Christy Angel via Angel Wings -> Pin

2. E1 Climax Block A: Benjamin vs. Kinniku Mike
Winner: Kinniku Mike via Rear Naked Choke -> Referee Stoppage -> 2 Points!

3. E1 Climax Block B: Bashin Dan vs. Zyro Kurogane
Winner: Zyro Kurogane via Let it Rip x Straight Jacket Hagen -> Pin -> 2 Points!

4. E1 Climax Block B: Jammer vs. Vargas Wargrave
Winner: Vargas Wargrave via Warhammer -> Pin -> 2 Points!

5. EBW Tag Team Championship: Java Coffington(c)/Grind(c) vs. Snakebite/Harrow
Winner: Snakebite[o]/Harrow via Jackknife Powerbomb to Grind -> Pin -> NEW EBW Tag Team Champions!

6. E1 Climax Block A: Trevor Mach vs. Tack Angel
Winner: Tack Angel via WRIST CLUTCH Heaven Driver -> Pin -> 2 Points!

Ted Pettentool: For the second even in Arcadia City, we had a massive revelation. Geoff Garrett returned to EBW! He joined up with PT and Point Man to take actually defeat the BDSM team of Daimon Kuro and the Sharks? How? Well, Mike wanted to get involved, but he was stopped by...Tack Angel! The Star Prince actually got involved, and chased off his opponent for later in the night. He stood tall with the Weekend Wrecking Crew at the end, and we found out what Tack meant when he said he was leaning into the joke. The Star Prince...is building an army of his own.

Ted Pettentool: The E1 Climax matches kicked off with Trevor Mach and Benjamin having an intense encounter, where the crowd chanted "GO MACH!" as he hit the Burning Machismo to hand Benji another loss, but it gave Trevor his first two points. Then, Bashin Dan and Jammer had an encounter against each other. They were all class about it before and after, but the match itself was a show stealer. Jammer shocked everyone by surpassing Dan on this night, and escaping the Brave Clash to hit one of his own, before going up top for the Slam Jam! Zyro Kurogane wanted a piece of the EBW Champion, and he got it in E1 Climax! A fast and frantic battle, with both men drawing from No Rules experience, riding the line right into a Time Limit Draw!

Boomtown: They were milking it. I would have beaten either one of them, but especially Zyro. Get to the good part.

Ted Pettentool: Right. The "good part". Ness, the EBW X Champion went toe to toe with Boomtown in his debut in the NEW EBW, and-

Boomtown: I BEAT HIM! WASN'T EVEN CLOSE!

Ted Pettentool: It was very close, but in a non-title match, Boomtown did get the win on the EBW OG.

Boomtown: And if you watch on X this upcoming week, I'm going to issue a challenge for Ness's X Championship, because the Influencer deserves the belt. Ness's influence is over. It's my time now, right chat?

Ted Pettentool: I'm Ted. The main event saw Tack Angel and Kinniku Mike have their big match that has been building for weeks. Tack brought out the Weekend Wrecking Crew to counter BDSM siding with Mike. An all out grudge match, in which Mike brought out a Makoto Angel body pillow, and seemingly defiled it right in front of Tack, but that didn't stop Tack from losing focus, it just made him kick harder. Ultimately, we had yet another time limit draw! They split the points.

We'll have more in the days ahead, so keep watching and we'll see you next time!

Re: EBW - Earthbound Wrestling

Apple Kid: Welcome to another episode of EBW on X!

Larry Grim: If you've been following along, the E1 Climax Tour is underway! It's a...small tour...but it's our extension outside of Onett, and that matters with cities like Twoson, Fourside, North Point, Reefside, Summers, and of course Saturn City off limits, we've managed to carve out a new territory with cities like Onett, Arcadia City, Metro City, Avalon City, Hanta City, thanks in part to our sponsors the Geist Corporation, who have a lot of pull, and love EBW as much as all of you!

Apple Kid: It's nice to have friends in high places, eh? Still the E1 Climax is bringing out the best in our elite talent. We have one last show in the Block stages, and that will take place in Avalon City, and that's before we bring the roster back home to Onett for the E1 Climax Finale inside of the Battle Dome! Tickets are on sale now!

Larry Grim: ALSO! We're happy to announce that the E1 Climax Finale WILL AIR ON X FOR FREE...if you have checkmark. So it's sort of kind of free! Hey, I'm just a skeleton man, I don't know how all of this works.

Apple Kid: It's called, we're tired of playing around! EBW is the top promotion in wrestling, and we've proven that over more than twenty years, and just because Axis No-

Larry Grim: We're not supposed to say their names!

Apple Kid: Right. Those guys decided to make a power play, but we refused to be taken over by another evil corporation. That's happened like...a few times, but after Smart Brain did it, I was like....we shouldn't do that anymore. However, when people throw money at you, you kind of want to.

Larry Grim: Well luckily for us Blake Faust, CEO of Geist Corporation, is NOT one of those nefarious types, and we thank them for the opportunity to keep EBW alive, and grow it in new and interesting ways. Of course we couldn't do this without Little Mac and Boss M's either.

Apple Kid: Thank you, Tali!

Larry Grim: Now that she's in absolute control with Mac, I'm sure it's going smoothly.

Apple Kid: Uh oh.

Larry Grim: What?

Apple Kid: You triggered a flag. They're gonna cut to her have trouble.

Larry Grim: What? No they're no-

Apple Kid: ...Oh...they're fine.

Larry Grim: ...Not everything has to be bad.

Apple Kid: It's a harsh reality we live in, where I just assume things are going to be bad all the time.

Larry Grim: Dude...we can talk if you're-

Apple Kid: ...I just miss Minako.

Larry Grim: ...We're not supposed to-

Apple Kid: Yeah...I know.

Larry Grim: ...Wow...things has certainly gotten...Grim?

Apple Kid: ...Hehehehe!

Larry Grim: It's funny cause...it's my last name and-

Apple Kid: Hehehehe!

Larry Grim: Anyways, let's get back to the show, shall we? We have the big show to tell you about later, but right now we have a debut for you! The menacing monster Graveshift! Where did he come from? Why is he partnering with the idol Mimi Starlight? Don't know! All I know is that his debut is next!

EBW on X
EBW Studio, Onett
X

1. Singles: Graveshift[Debut] vs. Tad Blinko
-Tad Blinko spent the opening bell complaining about the size difference, the lighting, the referee, and apparently the very existence of Graveshift. The debuting monster answered him the only way he knew how, with that slow, furious breathing from behind the mask.

Blinko tried to stall, ducking through the ropes and insisting Graveshift stay back, but the instant he stepped inside, Graveshift grabbed him by the throat and hurled him across the ring. Tad bounced off the canvas and scrambled toward the corner, only to eat a crushing body avalanche that folded him in half.

Tad desperately threw punches, but Graveshift barely reacted. He caught Blinko coming off the ropes, lifted him clean off the mat, and planted him with a brutal Spinning Side Slam that shook the tiny EBW Studio ring.

Graveshift covered him with one hand.

1-2-3!

After the bell, Graveshift remained kneeling beside Tad for several uncomfortable seconds, breathing heavily through his mask until Mimi Starlight appeared at ringside and waved cheerfully.

Graveshift immediately stood and followed her without another glance at his opponent.
Winner: Graveshift via Spinning Side Slam -> Pin

Apple Kid: Well, that went about as expected. A hulking rage beast and his dainty idol. What an odd combination.

Larry Grim: That's not the only odd combination, as tonight Dante Ward and Arsene St. Marvelous will team up in our main event to take on The Sharks! They haven't teamed together yet. Are they going to be a winning combination?

Arsene St. Marvelous: Though we come from different places, and different ways of life, we're both here to steal your hearts.

Dante Ward: We're here for the win, and this guy...might be..."different", but he's alright in my book.

Arsene St. Marvelous: I spent some time running from the law myself for my "antics". What put you behind bars, my new chum?

Dante Ward: Complicated stuff, but you could ask the new EBW Champion. He'd know more about it than anyone. He's the reason it happened. He's the reason....he's the reason my mentor Lobster Man is...not quite himself anymore. So go ahead and ask the champ for that answer. I'm just here to fight.

Arsene St. Marvelous: Works for me!

Larry Grim: Well there you have it! Tonight, they take on the Sharks in our main event, but as for right now. Mimi Starlight is returning for her debut match as she takes on Sharkette!

Apple Kid: I hope she doesn't bring back Graveshift with her!

2. Women's Singles: Mimi Starlight[Debut] vs. Sharkette
-The mood inside the studio changed completely for Mimi Starlight’s debut.

The lights dimmed, dozens of tiny Starlight flashlights appeared throughout the crowd, and Mimi skipped onto the stage to a wave of pink, blue, and violet light. Fans were already singing along before she even reached the ring.

Sharkette was considerably less impressed.

She charged Mimi immediately and tried to bully the smaller newcomer around the ring, driving her into the corner and mocking the crowd every time they chanted Mimi’s name. Mimi struggled early with Sharkette’s aggression, but her speed quickly changed the match.

She slipped beneath a clothesline, cartwheeled out of the corner, and caught Sharkette with a sharp dropkick. Another followed. Mimi ducked a wild swing and snapped off a spinning headscissors that sent Sharkette tumbling across the ring.

The crowd erupted.

The Starlight flashlights began waving in rhythm.

Sharkette staggered upright and charged again, but Mimi caught her with a kick to the stomach and dropped her with a quick facebuster. She immediately pointed toward the top rope.

The entire audience rose with her.

Mimi climbed to the top turnbuckle, spread her arms, and launched herself into a beautiful Stardust Press.

Perfect landing, and a pin for the victory!

Mimi immediately jumped back to her feet and celebrated like she had just won the biggest match of her life. The lights dropped again, and the studio became a sea of waving Starlight flashlights while Mimi climbed onto the middle rope and sang along with her entrance theme.
Winner: Mimi Starlight via Stardust Press -> Pin

Apple Kid: Wow! She's something else, but I hear some heavy breathing. Is Graveshift around somewhere?!

Larry Grim: Sorry, that was me.

Apple Kid: You don't need to breathe.

Larry Grim: I'm just engrossed in her...beauty.

Apple Kid: ...Oh no. Let's not do that, Larry.

Larry Grim: Alright.

Apple Kid: Seriously?

Larry Grim: Yep.

Apple Kid: Oh...GREAT!

Larry Grim: Interesting new addition to the women's division we're getting in the NEW EBW. I know the fans have been clamoring for it, and they will get it. Men and women just compliment each other, and make everything better. We've got more names coming down the pipeline too.

Apple Kid: I thought that Havok had cornered the market on the women wrestlers. A lot of jumps are being made everywhere in fact! What happened? What secret weapon do we have?

Larry Grim: ...We know a guy.

Central City

Rainwater ran along the gutters of Central City as Chimera Ninjas came crashing through the front window of an electronics store. A fourth vaulted over a parked sedan, sword drawn, while two more dropped from a fire escape behind them.

Howard Lincoln adjusted his tie.

He looked deeply annoyed.

Not frightened. Annoyed.

Jiban landed beside him with a metallic thud, red visor glowing beneath the streetlights.

Jiban: Mr. Lincoln, please remain behind me.

Howard stared at the approaching ninjas.

Howard Lincoln: I spent years dealing with lawyers, retailers, competitors, regulators, and game companies. I think I can handle six men in pajamas.

One of the Chimera Ninjas shrieked and charged.

Howard sidestepped him.

The ninja ran straight into a parking meter.

Howard Lincoln: Pansy asses! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!

Jiban drove an armored fist into another ninja's chest and sent him tumbling across the hood of a taxi. Sparks flew as a sword struck Jiban's forearm and bounced away.

Howard picked up the fallen sword, examined it for half a second, and frowned.

Howard Lincoln: You call this a sword? SEGA came at me with worse!

Jiban blocked two attackers at once.

Jiban: What?

Howard Lincoln: SEGA! Fought those bastards for years!

Jiban: I do not believe this is the correct moment.

Howard parried a ninja effectively enough to send the weapon spinning from the man's hands.

A Chimera Ninja leapt from the roof of the sedan.

Jiban caught him out of the air and power slammed him onto the pavement.

Howard Lincoln: Excellent restraint!

Jiban: Thank you.

Howard Lincoln: Now regarding your likeness.

Jiban slowly turned his helmet toward him.

Jiban: My likeness?

Howard ducked as a throwing star passed over his head.

Howard Lincoln: If someone makes a video game about you, I want the rights.

Jiban punched another ninja through a newspaper box.

Jiban: You are negotiating merchandising terms during an ambush.

Howard Lincoln: That's how they get you!

The final three Chimera Ninjas were downed in quick succession.

Sirens approached in the distance.

Jiban stood.

Jiban: Metro Police will take them from here.

Howard looked around at the broken windows, overturned trash cans, damaged taxi, shattered bus stop, and six unconscious Chimera Ninjas scattered across the street.

Howard Lincoln: One more question.

Jiban: Yes?

Howard Lincoln: Who owns the rights to your transformation sequence?

Jiban stared at him.

Howard smiled.

Howard Lincoln: We should talk.

-

Apple Kid: Howard Lincoln?! He kicked so much ASS!

Larry Grim: And thanks to Mr. Howard Lincoln we not only have the ladies coming to the NEW EBW, but we also have a special appearance from Metro City's SUPER COP Jiban coming soon!

Apple Kid: Excellent!

Larry Grim: For now though, we have our main event of the evening as Arsene St. Marvelous and Dante Ward take on The Sharks!

3. Tag: Arsene St. Marvelous/Dante Ward vs. Shark #1/Shark #2
-The Sharks entered with the confidence of a veteran team who expected two mismatched singles wrestlers to fall apart almost immediately.

For a while, they appeared to be right.

Arsene St. Marvelous wanted to wrestle at a flashy style, constantly looking for openings and frustrating Shark #1 with counters. Dante Ward wanted to punch something.

Dante repeatedly tagged himself in whenever Arsene appeared to have control, while Arsene became increasingly irritated every time Dante turned a clean wrestling exchange into a brawl. The Sharks exploited every argument, cutting the ring in half and isolating Dante for several minutes.

Dante finally escaped Shark #2 with a desperation backdrop and made the tag.

Arsene exploded into the ring.

He ducked Shark #1, caught Shark #2 with a European uppercut, and sent both men crashing into each other. Dante recovered just in time to join him, and for the first time all match the odd couple actually worked together.

Dante blasted Shark #1 off the apron while Arsene traded counters with Shark #2.

Shark #2 attempted a power move.

Arsene slipped free for the roll up and the 1-2-3!

The Sharks immediately protested as Arsene rolled outside the ring with a grin.
Winner: Arsene St. Marvelous[o]/Dante Ward via Roll Up on Shark #2 -> Pin

Larry Grim: And that does it for us tonight! We'll see in Avalon City as the E1 Climax Tour takes us to Kingdom Arena!

Apple Kid: They cleaned that place up quick!

Larry Grim: Thanks to Vander Industries, one of our sponsors for the show! It's going to be a big night for EBW and our rebirth. One of the biggest cards so far. Check it out, and we'll see you there!

Boomtown: The Influencer is back!

Tick: As is Tick!

Tock: And Tock!

Tick and Tock: Like a clo-

Boomtown: You two use TikTak? You'd get a lot of hits! Hey chat, what do you think? Hit me up in the comments. Ladies, I'll be sliding into DMs.

Tick: Ill advised.

Tock: Waste of time.

Tick: And we know about time.

Boomtown: Yeah, both of you are wasting MY time! You know what else is a waste of time? The E1 Climax! Hey! Don't look shocked! I'm not in it! I told M's, Mac, and Howard Lincoln that I wanted in on Day ONE! Not my fault the contract held me in place! I'm not some corporate stooge, unless the money is right, and it really wasn't, so I got my ass out of there, and I MADE this the "winning team" with my arrival, so a spot in the E1 should have been a given!

Tick: We traveled to Avalon City for this one.

Tock: We haven't been there in a while!

Tick: Well, we were CLOSE to there recently.

Tock: That was more Cole's thing than ours though. Still, we should have gotten a souvenir.

Tick: We got t-shirts this time, which you can order from EBW! The E1 Climax Tour 2026!

Boomtown: Get the Boomtown merch flowing, and the cash will follow. You two want to cover this?

Ted Pettentool: Oh no! We're going to step this up! You guys want more than just a quick recap for the E1, right? You want EFFORT! We're going to give it to you! Check it out!

EBW: E1 Climax Tour
Kingdom Arena, Avalon City

1. Women's Tag: Christy Angel/Alison Chains vs. Darkness Aoi/Ripper Jane
-Darkness Aoi came out alone, wearing a smile that only widened as Alison Chains leaned over the ropes and demanded to know where her partner was. The answer brought Kingdom Arena to its feet. Ripper Jane emerged from the entrance, and Alison's expression shifted from amusement to disbelief. There was none of the recent warmth in Jane's face as she approached the ring. She stopped beneath Alison's corner, looked her up and down, and slowly curled her fingers into the Hell Claw. Christy touched Alison's shoulder to get her attention, but Alison kept watching Jane even after the bell rang.

Christy opened against Aoi, frustrating her with quick escapes and a sharp dropkick before bringing Alison into the match. The Gamer Girlz found their rhythm with a double arm drag and a pair of kicks that sent Aoi retreating to her corner. Jane accepted the tag without taking her eyes off Alison. Chains approached with her arms spread, apparently expecting some acknowledgment of their history, and received a slap that cracked through the arena. Alison touched her cheek and stared. Jane slapped her again, harder, before grabbing her by the jaw and shoving her backward. Whatever Alison had intended to say disappeared beneath a furious forearm to Jane's face.

The exchange brought something ugly and familiar out of Chains. She drove Jane into the corner with punches, dragged her out by the head, and flattened her with a short clothesline. Jane rose smiling through it, which only made Alison hit harder. Aoi tried to reach over the ropes for a tag and caught an elbow for her trouble. Christy applauded from the apron, but her encouragement became a warning when Alison followed Jane too deeply into the wrong corner. Jane turned her against the buckles, Aoi tagged herself in, and a kick behind Alison's knee finally brought the eruption under control. Their quick tags kept Chains trapped, with Jane taking particular pleasure in grinding a forearm across her face and daring her to do something about it.

Alison eventually answered with a headbutt that knocked Jane backward, creating enough room to reach Christy. Angel came through the ropes with a flying forearm, knocked Aoi off the apron, and kept Jane moving with a succession of strikes that denied her the chance to plant her feet. A running attack in the corner led to a tight cradle, forcing Aoi back inside to break the count. Alison intercepted her with a tackle, and their struggle spilled beneath the ropes while Christy pressed her advantage. Jane reached for the Hell Claw, but Christy caught her wrist, turned beneath the arm, and nearly stole the match with another quick pinning combination.

Jane escaped and drove a knee into Christy's middle as they rose. Christy fought to straighten up, catching Jane with a forearm, but Jane absorbed it and clamped the Hell Claw into her mouth. Angel seized the wrist with both hands and tried to wrench free. Jane forced her backward, turned her away from the ropes, and bore down until Christy's knees touched the canvas. Alison saw what was happening and fought toward the apron, only for Aoi to catch her ankle and drag her back into their fight. Inside, Christy's grip weakened. The referee checked her, received no response, and called for the bell.

Jane kept the hold applied until Alison finally tore free of Aoi and slid into the ring. She released Christy and backed away before Chains could reach her, leaving Alison kneeling beside her partner with her fists still clenched. Jane looked at those fists, looked back into Alison's furious face, and smiled as though she had won something beyond the match.
Winners: Darkness Aoi/Ripper Jane via Hell Claw to Christy Angel -> Referee Stoppage

Boomtown: Well, there's your big reunion. Alison looked pleased to see her for about four seconds. That's longer than most people are pleased to see Alison.

Ted Pettentool: That's my girlfriend you're talking about, and her best friend just had to be saved by the referee. Christy didn't submit. Jane kept that Hell Claw applied until she couldn't defend herself anymore.

Tick: Hope spared Jane in that Exploding Ring Death Match. After everything that followed, seeing her walk out beside Aoi feels very wrong.

Tock: She was helping Hope push Christy to take Victory Explosion 20 seriously. Now she's helping Aoi put Christy on the floor. I'd like to know what happened between those two things.

Boomtown: Maybe she got tired of everybody treating her like their slightly unsettling aunt. You keep a woman called Ripper Jane around, you don't get to act shocked when she starts ripping things.

Ted Pettentool: And Alison? Jane kept looking at her even while she was hurting Christy. I've spent enough time with Ali to know when she's angry, and that wasn't just anger. Jane was deliberately bringing something out of her.

Tick: Alison was still trying to save Christy at the end. That matters.

Tock: So does Aoi getting the revenge she wanted. Christy embarrassed her on X, and Aoi walked out. Tonight she brought someone who stayed.

Ted Pettentool: The Gamer Girlz have beaten Aoi for tag gold before. They know how dangerous she is, but nobody was prepared for this partnership. And now Tack has to walk out for his tournament match after watching that happen to his daughter.

Boomtown: Benjamin had better hope he doesn't take it personally. Tack already wanted to kick somebody through a wall before we got here.

2. E1 Climax Block A: Benjamin vs. Tack Angel
-Benjamin entered with no points and very little room left for another admirable defeat. Tack Angel offered him no sympathy once the bell rang, taking him down from the opening lockup and making him work through a headlock before he could even begin his own offense. Benjamin escaped, caught Tack's wrist, and pulled him into a quick exchange of reversals that ended with Tack narrowly avoiding a Spear. Tack answered with a high kick that Benjamin ducked just as narrowly. Neither man paused to acknowledge the reaction. Benjamin drove Tack toward the ropes, Tack reversed him, and the next collision sent both men scrambling for a position neither could keep.

Tack established control by attacking Benjamin's neck. A sharp kick stopped him as he rose from a takedown, and Tack followed with a neckbreaker before Benjamin could gather himself. He kept the pressure close, making Benjamin carry his weight in holds and snapping him back to the canvas whenever he tried to stand too quickly. Benjamin's first real opening came when he caught a kick against his side and drove his shoulder into Tack's ribs. He repeated the attack in the corner, forcing the air from Tack with each impact, and followed a snap suplex with a cover that earned two. Tack escaped the next attempt, but he came away protecting his side, giving Benjamin something to return to whenever the match threatened to get away from him.

Their struggle grew more urgent as each began recognizing the other's setups. Tack stepped aside when Benjamin lowered his shoulder, catching him with a knee before the Spear could develop. Benjamin blocked another neckbreaker and turned Tack into a backbreaker across his own knee, immediately clutching his neck after the impact. The damage made every advantage expensive. When Benjamin finally lifted Tack for Masamune, Tack shifted his weight and dropped behind him, landing a kick that knocked Benjamin against the ropes. Tack followed him in, but Benjamin caught him around the waist and drove him into the corner hard enough to leave both men hanging against the turnbuckles.

The crowd rose with them as the pace accelerated. Benjamin dragged Tack out for a suplex, only for Tack to land behind him and hit a Hagen suplex of his own. Benjamin rolled through to his knees and met Tack's approach with a forearm to the ribs. Tack answered across the jaw. They fought upright in the middle of the ring, Benjamin forcing himself inside the range of Tack's kicks, Tack using every small separation to strike. A kick to Benjamin's chest finally created enough room for Tack to pull him into the Star Driver. Benjamin got a shoulder up just before three, but the escape left him lying on his side, struggling to turn his head toward Tack.

Tack reached down for the wrist. Benjamin recognized the danger and pulled his arm against his chest, forcing Tack to fight for every inch of the grip. Tack kicked him between the shoulders and tried again. This time Benjamin rolled beneath the arm and caught him in a cradle for a near fall that brought a roar from the crowd. Tack kicked free, rose first, and drove another kick into Benjamin's upper body. Benjamin staggered without falling. When Tack came forward to finish the exchange, Benjamin stepped inside and struck the ribs again, then hauled him into a suplex that left both men staring at the lights.

Benjamin reached his feet using the ropes and waited until Tack turned toward him. His first step brought Tack's knee up to intercept the Spear again, but Benjamin checked his approach and shoved the raised leg aside. Tack recovered quickly enough to land an elbow and secure Benjamin's wrist. The WRIST CLUTCH Heaven Driver was almost there. Benjamin planted his feet, turned with the pressure instead of fighting straight against it, and tore his hand loose as Tack tried to lift him. Tack swung a kick toward his head. Benjamin ducked beneath it, hit the ropes at an angle, and drove the Spear straight through Tack's battered middle.

Benjamin stayed beside him, refusing to spend the opening on a celebration or a hopeful cover. He pulled Tack upright, set his feet, and lifted him for Masamune. Tack tried to shift his weight as he had earlier, but Benjamin tightened his grip and held him suspended, his own legs trembling beneath the effort. The stalled brainbuster finally drove Tack into the canvas. Benjamin rolled across him and hooked the leg with everything he had left, keeping his weight pressed down until the referee counted three.

The release from the crowd seemed to reach Benjamin a moment late. He remained across Tack until the referee touched his shoulder, then rolled away and sat with his hands on his knees, finally allowing himself to breathe. Tack worked his way into a sitting position nearby and looked toward him. Benjamin met his eyes, and Tack answered with a weary nod. Benjamin had his first two points, earned by beating a man who had made him fight for every second of them.
Winner: Benjamin via Spear x Masamune -> Pin -> 2 Points!

Ted Pettentool: Benjamin gets his two points, and what a way to get them! Aoi helped Mike beat him at Hanta, Trevor beat him outright at Arcadia, and tonight he had to walk straight into Tack Angel. That is a miserable road to your first win.

Boomtown: He could've saved himself the trouble by giving me his place. I'd have thanked him publicly. That's exposure, Ted. People pay for that.

Tick: Benjamin remembered that knee Tack used to stop the Spear. He made Tack commit to it, changed his approach, and finally got through.

Tock: And once he had him, he didn't give him room to recover. Tack had already escaped Masamune once. Benjamin made sure the second attempt ended differently.

Ted Pettentool: There is history beneath all of that. Benjamin stood against Tack when the royal business went far beyond a nickname. He refused to kneel to that king. Tonight Tack made him earn the victory and acknowledged him afterward. That's a very different ending to one of their fights.

Boomtown: Don't get sentimental. Tack's still collecting followers. He says he's leaning into the joke, and now Geoff Garrett and the Weekend Wrecking Crew are standing behind him. That's an expensive punchline.

Tick: He also said he had a clear head. Losing a match without trying to annex the building is encouraging.

Tock: Particularly a building called Kingdom Arena. That must take restraint.

Ted Pettentool: Tack stays at three, Benjamin moves to two, and Trevor and Mike still have our main event ahead of them. First, Bashin Dan needs to follow his friend's example. He's coming into his match with zero points, and he's facing the EBW Champion.

Boomtown: After telling Trevor Mach to step aside. Bold choice, opening your mouth before opening your account.

3. E1 Climax Block B: Bashin Dan vs. Vargas Wargrave
-Bashin Dan had watched Benjamin get on the board, and now he faced the EBW Champion with the same empty space beside his own name. Vargas Wargrave made certain Dan understood the difference between wanting to turn a tournament around and doing it against him. He shoved Dan out of their first lockup, planted himself in the center of the ring, and beckoned him forward. Dan returned with a lower stance, caught the champion's right wrist, and immediately began working the arm. Vargas powered him toward the ropes, but Dan held on through the break of position, forcing Vargas to turn his shoulder awkwardly before he could pull free.

Dan's plan became clear when Vargas tried to drag him down for the Crossface. Dan peeled at the right hand before the grip could close, turned the arm outward, and drove Vargas shoulder-first into the mat. He stayed on that side with a hammerlock and short knees to the upper arm, making the champion spend strength escaping instead of attacking. Vargas finally broke the pattern by lifting Dan bodily and dropping him across his knee. Dan arched away from the backbreaker, and Vargas drove him into the corner before he could recover. The champion leaned his weight into Dan's middle, hauled him out, and dropped him with another heavy slam that made Dan turn onto his stomach to protect his back.

Vargas worked with growing confidence, cutting off Dan's attempts to accelerate and forcing him into exchanges where strength decided the outcome. Dan tried to rally with forearms, but Vargas caught him around the waist and drove him backward into the buckles again. When Vargas reached to pull him out, Dan trapped the injured arm across the top rope and twisted away, using the brief opening to land a kick just above the elbow. Vargas recoiled. Dan followed with another attack to the shoulder, wrestled him to the canvas, and pulled the arm straight until Vargas had to stretch a boot onto the bottom rope. Dan released cleanly, but he stayed close enough that Vargas could not shake the feeling back into his hand without defending himself.

The champion's next attempt at the Crossface came out of a scramble and nearly ended everything. Vargas caught Dan's arm, took him down, and wrenched backward as Dan clawed at the canvas. Dan reached for the ropes and came up short. He tried again, only for Vargas to drag him farther into the hold. With his back already aching, Dan changed direction and pushed through his feet, rolling Vargas onto his shoulders for a desperate two-count. Vargas had to release him to escape the pin. Dan staggered upright and went for Brave Clash, but his back seized during the lift, giving Vargas time to wrench free and crush him with a short clothesline.

Vargas pulled Dan up for the Jackhammer. The damaged arm made him adjust his grip before lifting, but once he had Dan off the canvas, he brought him down with enough force to silence a section of the crowd. Vargas landed clutching his shoulder and needed an extra moment to make the cover. Dan used every fraction of it, turning a shoulder free as the referee's hand descended for three. Vargas sat back on his heels and stared at the referee, breathing hard through his anger. Dan lay beside him with one arm across his ribs, moving only when Vargas grabbed him again.

Dan could barely straighten as Vargas brought him upright, but he still knew which arm was holding him. He attacked it with a short forearm, absorbed a blow from the champion's good side, and struck the shoulder again. Vargas tried to muscle through the exchange, driving Dan backward, but Dan kept turning him until they were back in the center. An attempted Crossface became another struggle over the wrist. Dan got both hands around it and pulled himself clear, then landed a hard forearm that sent Vargas down to one knee. He reached for Brave Clash, and Vargas fought out before the lift, shoving him away and launching himself forward for the Warhammer.

Dan slipped past the attack and caught the damaged arm as Vargas turned. A sharp wrench left the champion bent forward and struggling to free his hand. Dan drove a knee into his middle, stepped close enough to get his hips beneath the weight, and began the lift again. His back threatened to give out, but this time he had Vargas positioned where he wanted him. Dan steadied himself, shifted his grip, and drove the champion down with Brave Clash. He folded over Vargas and hooked the legs tightly, his face twisted with the effort of keeping the cover secure. The referee counted three, and Dan finally let go.

Vargas rolled toward the ropes clutching his arm while Dan remained on the canvas, listening to the announcement of his victory over the EBW Champion. Beating the champion had cost him nearly everything he could give that night. When he finally stood, he still needed a hand against his lower back, but his eyes followed Vargas all the way out of the ring.
Winner: Bashin Dan via Brave Clash -> Pin -> 2 Points!

Ted Pettentool: Well, his account is open now. Bashin Dan has pinned the EBW Champion! Vargas interrupted that tag match on X to keep Harrow and Snakebite from losing to Dan and Benjamin. Tonight Dan got to finish his match.

Tick: He kept coming back to the arm, even when Vargas was folding him in half. That little delay before Vargas could cover him after the Jackhammer made a difference.

Tock: Dan barely had enough left to lift him at the end. You could see him getting his feet into position before he tried again. He knew his back wouldn't forgive another mistake.

Boomtown: I'll give him that. He had a plan, he stuck to it, and Vargas couldn't make him stop. The card metaphors are still exhausting, but the actual wrestling was good.

Ted Pettentool: Careful. That's dangerously close to giving someone credit.

Boomtown: Don't make it weird. I also know The Auditor isn't going to enjoy explaining this one. He likes his collection looking invincible. Having one of the Dan Club boys put his champion on his back ruins the presentation.

Ted Pettentool: You would know how he operates.

Boomtown: Past tense. I've said what I've got to say about Sal and Jamie. I'm not doing business with The Auditor again, and I'm not turning this desk into a reunion special.

Tick: Vargas still has the championship, but Dan has given him a result he can't talk around.

Ted Pettentool: Exactly. This was for E1 points, and Dan now has two. His father-in-law still has to wrestle tonight, but after telling Trevor to step aside, Dan has finally given that argument some weight.

Tock: Meanwhile, Zyro could move ahead of everybody in Block B with a win over Jammer. This is becoming a very good evening.

Boomtown: You were doing fine until you said his name.

4. E1 Climax Block B: Jammer vs. Zyro Kurogane
-Jammer and Zyro Kurogane gave Kingdom Arena almost no time to catch its breath. Zyro slipped behind the opening lockup, Jammer broke the waistlock, and their first trip through the ropes ended with Jammer catching Zyro out of the air and throwing him across the ring. Zyro rolled through the landing and came straight back with a dropkick. Jammer stepped out to regroup, but Zyro followed with a dive that sent them both into the barricade. Neither stayed down long enough to let the crowd finish reacting before they were fighting their way back inside.

Jammer used his size to interrupt Zyro's rhythm, catching him during a running attack and turning it into a powerslam for two. He backed Zyro into the corner, feinted one way, and drove through the other with a shoulder that left Kurogane gasping against the buckles. Zyro escaped the follow-up and sprang off the ropes, only for Jammer to catch him again. This time Zyro shifted his weight, slipped down behind him, and pulled him into a pinning combination. Jammer kicked out, Zyro tried another, and Jammer finally forced him away with both boots before either man could settle into control.

The near falls came faster as the match wore on. Zyro caught Jammer's wrist for Let it Rip, but Jammer read the pull and stepped through it, ducking the lariat and driving Zyro into the mat with a spinebuster. The impact left Zyro flat in the middle of the ring, and Jammer went up for the Slam Jam. Zyro rolled toward the corner as Jammer launched, forcing Jammer to twist in the air and land awkwardly across Zyro's legs instead of his chest. Jammer still dragged him into a cover, but Zyro escaped just before three. Jammer glanced at the referee, slapped the canvas once, and went straight back to work.

Zyro barely avoided another lift and hooked Jammer's arms from behind. Jammer widened his stance to block the Straight Jacket Hagen, broke one hand loose, and turned the struggle into a backslide that came within a breath of stealing the match. Zyro rolled out with Jammer still close enough to catch him. Jammer reached for another power move, but Zyro slipped to the side and secured the wrist again. Jammer began the same turn that had saved him earlier. Zyro shortened the distance before pulling, giving him no room to pass beneath the arm, and Let it Rip caught him flush.

Jammer tried to push himself upright on instinct. Zyro stayed attached, crossed his arms against his chest, and hauled him over with the Straight Jacket Hagen. The bridge shook under Jammer's struggle, but Zyro dug his boots into the canvas and held through the three count. Jammer broke loose immediately afterward, a heartbeat too late. Zyro rolled onto his side, breathing heavily, and looked toward the referee before allowing himself to raise an arm. Jammer sat nearby with a hand across the back of his neck, painfully aware of how little had separated them.
Winner: Zyro Kurogane via Let it Rip x Straight Jacket Hagen -> Pin -> 2 Points!

Ted Pettentool: Zyro goes to five points! He beat Dan, took Vargas to a draw, and has now beaten Jammer. That's the lead in Block B.

Boomtown: Jammer had him. That backslide was right there. Another inch and the two fangirls would be sitting down like professionals.

Tick: Jammer nearly won. Zyro still had to escape, catch the wrist, and land both moves. We're allowed to be excited about that.

Tock: We're also allowed to appreciate his cheekbones.

Ted Pettentool: Jammer deserves credit too. He beat Dan at Arcadia and came very close to getting another two points here. He found an answer for Let it Rip early, but Zyro adjusted the distance the next time. That was the difference.

Boomtown: Believe me, I know how irritating he is when he keeps finding another answer. I've had to deal with him a hell of a lot longer than you two have been laminating pictures of him.

Tick: After what happened to his World Championship run in Scaraba, he came here saying he wanted to get back to the top. Five points makes that sound considerably less ambitious.

Ted Pettentool: He has put himself in a strong position. Jammer stays at two, alongside Dan, with Vargas on three. We turn to tag action next, and Geoff Garrett has a guitar that Marco De Leon would probably enjoy getting his hands on.

Boomtown: Finally, a conversation about someone else's terrible decisions.

5. Tag: Geoff Garrett/Point Man vs. Marco De Leon/Daimon Kuro
-Geoff Garrett began by giving Marco De Leon a wrestling lesson that Marco seemed determined to dispute with everyone except Geoff. An arm drag sent him sliding into the wrong corner, where Point Man helpfully pointed him toward his own partner. Marco got up complaining, walked into another arm drag, and retreated to tag Daimon Kuro. Geoff answered with a strut toward his corner and a tag to Point Man, who entered with considerably more enthusiasm than grace. Daimon tried to intimidate him with a stare. Point Man stared back, pointed at him, and knocked him down with a shoulder tackle.

The good mood lasted until Marco caught Point Man from the apron, allowing Daimon to cut him down from behind. They isolated him with quick tags and several attacks that became perfectly innocent the instant the referee turned around. Geoff's protests only gave them more opportunities. Point Man finally ducked a clothesline from Daimon, sent him crashing into Marco, and crawled toward his corner while both opponents argued about whose fault it had been. Marco slapped Daimon's shoulder to take over and rushed to stop the tag. Geoff got there first and came in swinging, dropping Marco with a right hand and catching Daimon with another before either could reset.

Geoff tried to put Marco away with The Stroke, but Daimon broke up the setup and drew Point Man back into the ring. Their collision carried them toward the ropes, pulling the referee's attention with them. Marco slipped outside, grabbed Geoff's guitar, and returned to the apron with the instrument raised. He waited until Geoff turned toward him and started to draw it back, only to discover someone had hold of the other end. Arsene St. Marvelous stood on the floor with both hands around the guitar's body, preventing Marco from bringing it into the ring. Marco tugged once, lost his grip, and was left holding his empty hands in front of his face.

Arsene gave the guitar a small, courteous lift. Marco's furious reply never got started. Geoff pulled him through the ropes, hooked him, and planted him face first with The Stroke. Point Man forced Daimon off the apron while Geoff made the cover, giving the referee a clear view of all three counts. Afterward, Arsene returned the guitar to its owner, and Geoff inspected it with the concern of a man checking on an injured relative. Point Man pointed from the intact guitar to Marco on the canvas, apparently satisfied that justice had been explained thoroughly enough.
Winners: Geoff Garrett[o]/Point Man via The Stroke to Marco De Leon -> Pin

Ted Pettentool: The Stroke does it again! Geoff returned at Arcadia, pinned Shark Number Two, and now he's put Marco down as well. The Weekend Wrecking Crew are making this comeback count.

Tick: Tack kept Mike from spoiling their match in Arcadia. Tonight Arsene stopped Marco from bringing the guitar into this one. BDSM haven't been getting quite as many uninterrupted evenings lately.

Boomtown: Arsene should've minded his own business. If Marco wants to make a mistake with somebody else's property, let him make it. People learn through consequences.

Ted Pettentool: He was about to hit Geoff with it!

Boomtown: And now he's angry at Arsene. That's another consequence. Keep up.

Tick: Those two brought their grudge into EBW with them. Arsene was already making saves against Marco back at Freedom 250. This hasn't come out of nowhere.

Tock: Marco's going to remember who was holding the guitar while he was getting his face planted.

Ted Pettentool: Which is something Arsene indeed needed to keep in mind, because he wrestled next. Against the man currently at our desk.

Boomtown: Now you can learn something. Enjoy the show, chat.

Ted Pettentool: Ted. My name is Ted. I've been sitting next to you all night.

6. Singles: Boomtown vs. Arsene St. Marvelous
-Arsene St. Marvelous had little time to enjoy his part in the previous result before Boomtown came after him. Boomtown shoved him into the corner and tried to overwhelm him with power, but Arsene slipped away, caught his arm, and sent him through a series of quick takedowns that left him getting angrier each time he stood. Arsene nearly caught him with a tight cradle before Boomtown finally interrupted the lesson with a knee to the stomach. He drove Arsene into the buckles and followed with a heavy suplex, making certain to lean across his face during the cover.

Boomtown slowed the match down once he had control, pressing his advantage with short strikes and a grinding hold around Arsene's head. Arsene worked to his knees, fought upright, and broke free with elbows to the ribs. Boomtown tried to throw him back down by the neck, but Arsene rolled through and caught him with a dropkick. A running forearm forced Boomtown into the corner, and Arsene followed with a turning crossbody that earned a close two-count. Boomtown rolled toward the ropes, looking for space, while Arsene rose with the crowd behind him.

Marco De Leon returned to ringside still rubbing his jaw. Arsene spotted him and kept enough distance to avoid the first attempt to grab his boot, even managing a kick through the ropes that sent Marco stumbling backward. He returned his attention to Boomtown quickly enough to duck a clothesline and force him into another near fall. Boomtown escaped toward the referee, complaining that Arsene had caught him in the throat. As the official checked him, Arsene stepped onto the second rope for another aerial attack. Marco moved in from below, seized his ankle, and jerked his footing out from under him. Arsene dropped hard across the turnbuckle and spilled into the ring, clutching at his middle.

Marco crouched beneath the apron as the referee turned back. Boomtown abandoned his complaint the instant he saw Arsene trying to stand, pulled him into position, and snapped him through Here Comes the Boom! Arsene had no chance to recover before Boomtown hooked the leg for the pin. Only after the bell did Marco stand upright, brushing his hands together with exaggerated satisfaction. He gave Arsene the same courteous little gesture he had received during the guitar incident, then backed up the aisle as Boomtown celebrated a victory he was perfectly happy to take.
Winner: Boomtown via Here Comes the Boom! -> Pin

Boomtown: There it is! Another victim of the BOOM! You watched a master at work, and I don't hear nearly enough gratitude at this desk.

Ted Pettentool: We also watched Marco pull Arsene's ankle out from under him while you had the referee occupied.

Boomtown: I had a legitimate concern about my throat. I'm a wrestler and an influential broadcaster. This voice feeds people, Ted.

Tick: Arsene had you down for two before Marco got involved.

Boomtown: And I had Arsene down for three afterward. Bigger number. You two should love that. It's practically your whole thing.

Tock: You seem much more comfortable with outside interference when it improves your evening.

Boomtown: Marco and Arsene have personal business. I had a wrestling match. Everybody got something done. You're welcome.

Ted Pettentool: Arsene stopped Marco from cheating Geoff, and Marco cost him his own match in return. That problem is getting worse. As for you, Ness is still the X Champion, whatever you think your recent wins entitle you to.

Boomtown: He can enjoy holding it until I get my opportunity. I beat him once already, and this promotion is broadcasting on my natural habitat. An X Championship around the Influencer's waist makes sense.

Ted Pettentool: Our main event makes sense too, although for considerably less pleasant reasons. Mike demanded to be in Trevor's block after harassing Tali. She told him Trevor had already requested the same thing. Both men wanted this match, and now they've got it.

Tick: Mike tried to get inside Tack's head with that Makoto body pillow in Arcadia. He came away with a draw and a lot of bruises.

Boomtown: Even I thought the pillow was a bit much. Trevor's going to try to take his head off, and Mike knows it. That's what he's been trying to make happen.

Tock: Trevor has to remember there's a match to win while he's doing it. Mike only needs enough time to get that choke around his neck.

7. E1 Climax Block A: Trevor Mach vs. Kinniku Mike
-Kinniku Mike met Trevor Mach in the center of the ring and stood close enough to make the opening stare feel like another provocation. Trevor kept his hands low and his eyes fixed on Mike, waiting through the grin until the bell gave him permission to wipe it away. His first kick cracked against Mike's thigh. Mike answered with a forearm across the jaw, and Trevor stepped inside for another. Their opening exchange stayed tight and ugly, neither man willing to give ground until Mike caught Trevor around the body and drove him to the canvas. Trevor fought for an arm, Mike smothered the attempt with his weight, and the main event settled into a struggle in which even getting back to one knee demanded work.

Mike attacked the neck and shoulders, forcing Trevor's head forward in a front facelock and punishing every escape with another clubbing forearm. Trevor made it upright and landed two kicks to the lead leg, but Mike caught the next one and swept his support out from under him. A heavy elbow across the upper back brought Trevor flat to the mat. Mike hauled him toward the ropes, pressed a boot against the back of his neck, and kept it there until the referee's count forced him to release. He backed away with his hands raised, then drove a short kick into Trevor's chest as soon as Mach stood.

Trevor answered by attacking the leg again, chopping at Mike's base whenever he could create enough room. Mike tried to crowd him into the corner, but Trevor turned out beneath his arm and landed a knee to the body. A second knee bent Mike forward. Trevor reached to pull him into another, only for Mike to wrap both arms around him and drive him down with a powerslam. Trevor got a shoulder up, and Mike immediately dragged him into a seated position, forcing him to defend against the Rear Naked Choke before he could even catch his breath. Trevor caught the wrist beneath his chin and held it away with both hands, his boots scraping across the canvas as Mike tried to secure the grip.

The struggle carried them onto their sides. Mike hooked his legs around Trevor's waist and began pulling him backward, making every inch toward the ropes harder to find. Trevor stopped reaching with his arm and turned his hips instead, pushing against the mat until he could stretch a boot across the bottom rope. Mike held on until the referee intervened. Trevor rolled onto his stomach and drew a rough breath while Mike rose beside him, watching with the patience of a man who believed he had already found the ending.

Mike's confidence gave Trevor his next opening. He reached down to pull Mach up and took an elbow to the stomach, followed by another that forced him to loosen his grip. Trevor got underneath him and drove him backward into the corner, landing short knees until Mike's hands finally dropped from his neck. He stepped away just far enough to kick the damaged thigh, then caught Mike across the jaw with an elbow that staggered him out of the corner. Trevor followed with a suplex and made his first convincing cover. Mike powered out at two, but he stayed down afterward, rubbing his leg before he could force himself upright.

The pace sharpened as both men realized they could no longer afford the other's next hold. Trevor went for the Knee Trigger, but Mike caught enough of the approach to turn him into a crushing slam. Mike hauled him up for the Muscle Buster, getting Trevor into position before the strain in his lead leg forced him to reset his stance. Trevor used that small hesitation to fight loose, landing behind him and driving a kick into the back of the same thigh. Mike stumbled to a knee. Trevor came forward, but Mike caught him at the waist and dragged him down, reaching for the choke again as the crowd rose around them.

Trevor trapped the wrist before it could settle beneath his chin. Mike tried to force the arm through, Trevor rolled his weight forward, and their struggle brought Mike onto his shoulders for a count of two. They broke apart and rose together. Mike drove a boot into Trevor's chest hard enough to send him into the ropes, but Mach caught himself and came back with an elbow. Mike answered with one of his own. The blows lost their clean rhythm as exhaustion took over, each man needing longer to get his feet under him before throwing the next. Mike finally landed a forearm that left Trevor swaying, and he reached behind the neck to pull him into another lift.

Trevor struck the body before Mike could secure him, stepped free of the grip, and drove the Knee Trigger into his jaw. Mike reeled but remained standing, his hands reaching for Trevor as if he could still turn the collision into a hold. Trevor knocked the reaching arm aside, moved beneath him, and hauled Mike across his shoulders. The weight made Trevor stagger. He planted one boot, adjusted the other, and held firm while Mike struggled to slide free. With the crowd on its feet, Trevor drove him down with Burning Machismo and fell across his chest, hooking the far leg before Mike could move toward the ropes. The referee counted three.

Trevor remained over Mike for a moment after the bell, his forehead resting against the canvas while the roar rolled through Kingdom Arena. He finally released the leg and pushed himself upright, rubbing at his throat as the referee raised his arm. Mike lay near the center of the ring, beaten after making Trevor fight through almost every weapon he had. Mach could barely straighten his shoulders, but he stayed on his feet to hear his name announced, carrying two more points out of a main event that had demanded considerably more than either man wanted to surrender.
Winner: Trevor Mach via Burning Machismo -> Pin -> 2 Points!

Ted Pettentool: Burning Machismo, three count, and Trevor Mach moves to four points! Mike wanted him in this block. Trevor wanted him in this block. I think they both understand exactly what they asked for now.

Boomtown: Mike nearly had him with that choke. I'll give Trevor credit for remembering how to wrestle instead of spending the whole match trying to punch an apology out of him.

Tick: He kept attacking the leg. When Mike had him up for the Muscle Buster, Mike needed that extra moment to get steady, and Trevor used it.

Tock: Getting to the rope during the choke mattered just as much. Benjamin couldn't escape Mike at Hanta after Aoi got involved. Trevor knew what would happen if Mike finished closing that grip.

Ted Pettentool: After losing the championship and the rematch to Vargas, Trevor needed results. He lost to Tack here in the E1, came back against Benjamin, and has now beaten Mike. That's a hard earned four points, and it puts him on top of Block A tonight.

Boomtown: While Dan finally gets his first win by beating the champion Trevor couldn't get the belt back from. You know that conversation's going to be pleasant. Hope might want to keep the seating arrangements flexible.

Ted Pettentool: Dan told him to step aside, but Zyro is still ahead of Dan in Block B. Nobody gets a final just because they called for one. Looking at the standings after Avalon, Trevor has four, Tack and Mike have three apiece, and Benjamin has two. In Block B, Zyro has five, Vargas has three, and Dan and Jammer have two each.

Tick: We'll have the next tournament announcements on EBW World. We know a few people who'll be watching those very carefully.

Boomtown: Yes, me. I won tonight and still have no points. Explain how that's a sensible use of your biggest star.

Ted Pettentool: Tali and Little Mac fought to keep the EBW name, and nights like this give people a reason to keep coming back. We've had tremendous wrestling, Jane's return has left some serious questions, and I doubt either Marco or Arsene thinks they're finished with each other. Thank you, Avalon City. From the Toolbox, Tick, Tock, and our exceptionally modest colleague, we'll see you on EBW World!

Boomtown: Like, subscribe, and tell Ness to keep my championship clean.

Re: EBW - Earthbound Wrestling

The parking lot outside EBW Studios was already overflowing well before bell time. Fans crowded around the barricades near the employee entrance, some wearing homemade shirts, some holding signs, and several looking like they had been drinking since sometime around breakfast. One guy held up a HINT sign as per usual.

A black sedan rolled slowly toward the side entrance before stopping twenty feet short of the door.

The back passenger door opened, and Tack Angel climbed out first.

He had barely straightened his jacket when Howard Lincoln emerged from the opposite side.

Makoto stepped out behind Tack, looking considerably less burdened.

Tack stared at Howard's mountain of documents.

Tack Angel: You brought homework?

Howard adjusted his glasses.

Howard Lincoln: Legal protection is not homework, Mr. Angel. Legal protection is armor.

Tack Angel: I've got armor.

Tack slapped his chest.

Tack Angel: It's called being handsome and dangerous.

Makoto gave him a sideways look.

Makoto Angel: One of those is debatable.

Tack stopped walking.

Tack Angel: Which one?

Makoto smiled sweetly.

Makoto Angel: You're certainly my handsome POG champ.

Tack Angel: Thanks! Hey wait!
.

Howard Lincoln: As I was explaining in the car, successfully establishing ownership of the Star Prince brand requires more than registering the exact phrase Star Prince.

Tack groaned.

Tack Angel: Howard, we've been talking about this for hours.

Howard Lincoln: We discussed preliminary protections. We discussed merchandising protections. We are currently discussing derivative nomenclature.

Tack looked toward Makoto.

Tack Angel: Is that Eaglish?

Makoto Angel: I think he said you're going to lose more money.

Howard raised one finger.

Howard Lincoln: Quite the opposite. We are spending money now to prevent other people from making money later.

Tack Angel: ...Anything to pay less taxes?

Howard began reading from his paperwork.

Howard Lincoln: Star Prince. The Star Prince. Prince of Stars. Prince Among Stars. Star-Prince, hyphenated. StarPrince, one word. The People's Star Prince—

Tack stopped again.

Tack Angel: Absolutely not.

Howard looked up.

Howard Lincoln: Which one?

Tack Angel: The People's Star Prince. Sounds like I campaign for office.

Makoto Angel: You'd lose.

Tack Angel: You are unusually hostile tonight!

Makoto Angel: Only joking, sweetie. I'm just keeping you humble.

Howard flipped to another page.

Howard Lincoln: Prince of the Stars. Star Prince Supreme. International Star Prince. Universal Star Prince. Galactic Star Prince—

Tack Angel: Universal Star Prince sounds incredible!

Howard made a note.

Howard Lincoln: Moving it to priority filing.

Tack Angel: Wait, don't actually—

Howard Lincoln: Too late.

They reached the outer barricade near the talent entrance.

That was where the crowd noticed them.

The reaction began with a few shouts.

Fan #1: TACK!

Fan #2: STAR PRINCE!

Fan #3: MAKOTO!

Tack immediately brightened.

Tack Angel: Ah. My people.

Howard kept walking.

A fan leaned over the barricade holding a marker.

Busty Fan: TACK! SIGN MY CHEST!

Tack pointed at her.

Tack Angel: See? Loyalty.

Makoto: She has Vargas written on her already.

Tack squinted.

Tack Angel: Treachery.

Most of the fans were loud but harmless, reaching out for autographs and shouting for Tack's attention as security tried to maintain a narrow path toward the entrance.

Unfortunately, the closer they got to the door, the rougher the crowd became.

A cluster of men near the end of the barricade pushed forward hard enough to shake the metal railings. They were laughing, yelling things Tack couldn't quite make out, and reaching well beyond the barrier.

Makoto instinctively moved closer to Tack.

One of the men shouted something at her.

Another reached toward her waist as she passed.

Makoto twisted away.

Tack's smile disappeared instantly.

Tack Angel: Don't.

The man laughed.

Rowdy Fan: MAKOTO! SO SEXY!

Another hand came reaching over the barricade toward Makoto.

Tack caught the man's wrist.

Hard.

The laughter around them faded.

Tack Angel: I gave you one.

The fan tried pulling his arm back.

Rowdy Fan: Get off me!

Tack Angel: One warning.

Howard looked over his paperwork.

Howard Lincoln: Technically, Tack, you are now within your rights to defend your spouse.

Tack yanked the first man forward until his stomach slammed against the railing, released his wrist, and cracked him across the face with a forearm.

The crowd exploded.

Makoto backed toward the wall as security suddenly found itself dealing with four different people trying to push through at once.

Makoto Angel: Tack!

Tack grabbed another fan by the shirt and hurled him backward into two of his friends.

He ducked a wild swing.

A heavyset man lunged around the barricade.

Howard calmly placed his paperwork on the hood of a nearby car.

He removed his glasses.

Folded them.

Placed them beside the paperwork.

Tack noticed.

Tack Angel: Howard?

Howard rolled up his sleeves.

A fan charged him.

Howard stepped aside, caught the man's arm, twisted it behind his back, and slammed him face first onto the hood.

Tack stared.

Tack Angel: Where did you learn to do that?!

Howard Lincoln: Nintendo!

Tack Angel: That explains nothing!

Another man grabbed Tack from behind.

Tack stomped his foot, drove an elbow into his stomach, turned, and sent him crashing over the barricade.

Howard released his own attacker just long enough to shove another man backward with both hands.

The man stumbled directly toward Tack.

Tack instinctively ducked.

Howard's fist connected cleanly.

The man dropped.

Both of them stared down at him.

Tack slowly looked at Howard.

Howard flexed his hand and winced.

By now, EBW security had finally overwhelmed the troublemakers and was dragging them away from the barricade.

Makoto stepped forward again.

Tack immediately checked her arms and shoulders.

Tack Angel: You okay?

Makoto Angel: I'm fine.

Tack Angel: They touch you?

Makoto Angel: No.

Howard returned to the hood and began reorganizing his paperwork.

One of the security guards stared at him.

Security Guard: Sir, did you just punch that guy?

Howard slid his glasses back onto his face.

Howard Lincoln: Just another day in the life of Howard Lincoln.

He pointed toward three fans holding phones.

Howard Lincoln: Look, Mr. Angel. By tomorrow morning, Universal Star Prince may have substantial viral market recognition.

Tack slowly looked toward Makoto.

Tack Angel: I hate that he's good at his job.

Makoto took the pen from Howard and handed it to Tack.

Makoto Angel: Sign it!

The E1 Climax posters had barely reached the walls of EBW Studios before people began lining up beneath them. Across the bottom, a fresh strip announced Iwata Memorial Arena as the new venue. Inside, the audience crowded close to the ring, chanting while Apple Kid adjusted his headset and Larry Grim studied the evening's card.

Apple Kid: Welcome to EBW on X! Apple Kid and Larry Grim here in Onett, where we have a championship match, a man I'm increasingly worried about being in the same building with, and a main event that will settle the E1 Climax field!

Larry Grim: Graveshift is the one he's worried about. Boomtown also unsettles him, but mostly because he keeps describing people as engagement opportunities.

Little Mac stood in the ring while Tali Mach waited beside the aisle in her wheelchair, holding a microphone and a copy of the original event poster. She raised the poster for the audience, then folded it neatly down the middle.

Tali Mach: Apparently, you people want to see this E1 Climax thing. Enough of you that we ran out of places to put you. So we're moving the big show from the Battle Dome to Iwata Memorial Arena! We needed a bigger venue, but we're keeping it right here in Onett!

The cheers drowned out the beginning of Mac's response. He let them continue, looking out over a studio full of people who had followed EBW into its new home.

Little Mac: You've supported us from the beginning of this new company. We're going to make that bigger building worth the trip. Trevor Mach has won Block A. Zyro Kurogane has won Block B. Vargas Wargrave has qualified in second place from Block B. Tonight, we find out who joins them.

Tali Mach: Tack Angel and Kinniku Mike finished with three points each. Their match in Arcadia was a draw. Tonight is the playoff. One fall, no time limit. Somebody is going to win it!

Apple looked toward the entrance as Mac lowered his microphone.

Apple Kid: Two matches in one night to win the E1. And whoever advances tonight earns the right to fight for the E1!

Larry Grim: Tack and Mike had opportunities to avoid this. But they sort of cancelled each other out with all of their results. This is how we settle it!

Boomtown appeared before either commentator could say anything else. He held his phone at arm's length, turning slowly to include the audience behind him, and only lowered it when Ness walked out with the EBW X Championship over his shoulder. Boomtown eyed the belt, then offered the champion a smile.

Boomtown: There he is, chat. Onett's favorite nostalgia act. Ness, we've already done this once. Arcadia. Here Comes the Boom. One, two, three. Tonight, Boomtown gets something to put on the shelf.

Ness: You beat me. I remember the whole thing. That's why I spent my time getting ready for you.

Boomtown: And how's that going?

Ness: Ask me after the match. You might want to put your phone down for it.

Boomtown laughed and handed the phone to an attendant, giving detailed instructions about keeping him in focus. Ness climbed through the ropes and placed the championship in the referee's hands.

EBW on X
EBW Studios, Onett
X

1. EBW X Championship: Ness(c) vs. Boomtown
-The thirty minute time limit was announced while the referee displayed the belt. Boomtown looked up at the clock, then held three fingers toward Ness, indicating how many seconds he expected to need. Ness stretched his shoulders and waited for the bell.

Boomtown's confidence had substance behind it. He slipped out of the opening wristlock, turned through Ness's grip, and caught the champion's arm behind his back before Ness had fully adjusted his feet. Ness reached back to peel the hands apart, but Boomtown changed position again, snapping him over with an arm drag and keeping hold of the wrist. When Ness rolled up, Boomtown was already moving. A dropkick struck the champion across the chest and sent him into the ropes.

Boomtown sprang to his feet and spread his arms. The audience booed, although several people in the front row were applauding before they remembered whose performance they were enjoying. Ness nodded once as he rose. He had learned something about the opening pace, and his next approach was slower.

The second lockup ended with Ness cinching a side headlock and taking Boomtown to the mat. Boomtown tried to roll him onto his shoulders, only for Ness to widen his base and settle more weight across his chest. He tried a headscissors next. Ness slipped free, followed him through the scramble, and took the headlock again. Boomtown finally reached the ropes, where Ness released promptly and backed away.

Boomtown rushed him and found himself in another headlock. This time, the laughter from the crowd annoyed him enough that he drove Ness into the corner and buried a shoulder beneath his ribs. The referee separated them, but Boomtown had his first target. When Ness stepped forward again, the challenger feinted high, struck the body, and whipped him hard into the opposite buckles.

The impact took the breath out of Ness. Boomtown followed with a running knee to the midsection, caught the champion as he stumbled forward, and snapped him down for the first serious cover. Ness kicked out at two. Boomtown immediately pressed a forearm across his jaw and made him spend more energy pushing it away.

Apple Kid: Boomtown has been talking all week, but look how quickly he found something to work on. Ness can't get a full breath between these attacks.

Larry Grim: People hear the mouth and overlook the wrestler. Ness already paid for doing that in Arcadia. Boomtown's perfectly capable of making him pay twice.

By the ten minute announcement, Ness had begun answering the body attacks with strikes to Boomtown's right shoulder. When the challenger reached for him, Ness trapped the arm and pulled him down across it. When Boomtown tried to break away with a forearm, Ness stepped inside the swing, folded the arm behind him, and drove him shoulder-first into the buckles. Boomtown came out rubbing the joint, his expression briefly stripped of its amusement.

He adapted quickly. A left handed strike caught Ness expecting the right, and Boomtown followed with a spinning kick that dropped him to one knee. Rather than attempt the springboard immediately, Boomtown waited for Ness to rise, faked the jump, and watched the champion move to intercept him. Only then did he change direction, vault onto the ropes, and spring back with a crossbody that flattened Ness for another two count.

The challenger rolled out of the cover onto one knee and tapped his temple.

Ness answered by catching his ankle. Boomtown's grin disappeared as the champion pulled him off balance and rolled him into a cradle. He escaped just before three and scrambled up into a sharp forearm. Ness followed with two more, then a dropkick that sent Boomtown through the ropes to the floor.

For several seconds, the challenger stayed outside with his hands on his hips, staring at the ring. Ness stood back and let the referee count. Boomtown circled toward the attendant holding his phone, demanding to know whether the crossbody had looked as good as it felt. The attendant started to answer, but the referee reached seven, and Boomtown hurried back inside.

Larry Grim: Wonderful crossbody. Almost followed it with a countout loss while conducting audience research.

Apple Kid: Fifteen minutes gone! Half the time limit, and neither man has established control for very long!

The next exchange brought Boomtown closer than he had been all match. He caught Ness coming off the ropes, redirected him into the corner, and followed with a running strike that left the champion sitting against the bottom buckle. Boomtown dragged him out, climbed, and delivered a high, clean splash across the ribs. Ness barely lifted a shoulder. Boomtown sat beside him for a moment, checking the referee's fingers, before forcing himself back to work.

He applied an abdominal stretch, pulling Ness upright and making the champion carry his weight through already tender ribs. Ness tried to reach behind him for a leg, but Boomtown shifted his foot away. Ness tried to straighten up, and the challenger leaned harder into the hold. With the crowd clapping him forward, Ness finally stepped across Boomtown's base, broke the grip, and threw him over his hip.

Boomtown landed, rolled, and charged straight back. Ness ducked beneath him, caught his arm as he passed, and pulled him into a short clothesline. Both men stayed down after the impact. Boomtown's legs moved first, but Ness reached his feet first, using the ropes to steady himself before stepping away from them to meet the challenger.

They traded strikes in the middle of the ring. Boomtown's were faster and came from more angles; Ness's were shorter, delivered with his feet beneath him and his attention on the next attack. When Boomtown swung wide, Ness hit the body. When Ness leaned forward, Boomtown brought a knee up underneath him. The twenty-minute announcement drew a cheer that built with every exchange.

Boomtown finally caught the champion hard enough to fold him forward and began setting him for Here Comes the Boom! Ness recognized the positioning from Arcadia. He dropped his weight before Boomtown could complete it, fought the hands apart, and drove through the challenger to throw him over. Boomtown landed awkwardly on the shoulder Ness had worked earlier. He rose clutching it and walked directly into Ness's next attack.

The champion hit PK Rockin' close to the ropes. Boomtown's momentum carried him onto his side, and he kept moving, rolling under the bottom rope before Ness could pull him back. Ness reached after him, caught only a boot, and lost his grip. Outside, Boomtown lay on the floor with one hand pressed against his shoulder, breathing through his open mouth.

Apple Kid: Boomtown got himself out! He felt that match slipping away and got out of the ring!

Larry Grim: That's good awareness. He can be insufferable and still know where the ropes are.

Ness allowed himself a few breaths before following. He brought Boomtown up carefully, keeping control of the arm, but the challenger turned on him with a short kick to the ribs. Ness's grip loosened. Boomtown drove him back against the apron, rolled him inside, and followed with a springboard attack that left both men sprawled near the center. His damaged shoulder slowed the cover, allowing Ness to escape at two.

At twenty-seven minutes, Boomtown finally found the opening he wanted. Ness reached for the arm again, expecting him to protect it. Boomtown let him take it, stepped through the attempted control, and caught the champion as he turned. Here Comes the Boom! landed, and Ness collapsed onto his back.

Boomtown rose onto his knees beside him. The audience had come out of its seats, and he looked around at them with an exhausted, triumphant smile. He tapped his wrist, pointed toward the championship at ringside, and mouthed something toward his phone before dropping across Ness.

The referee counted twice. Ness stretched his leg until the heel of his boot settled onto the bottom rope.

Boomtown did not believe the break until the referee pointed it out. He looked from Ness's boot to the clock, and the satisfaction vanished from his face.

Apple Kid: He had him down and spent those seconds celebrating! Ness used every one of them to get himself closer to that rope!

Larry Grim: You can see Ness moving while Boomtown's looking around. He's hurt, but he knows exactly where he is. Boomtown gave an experienced champion time to solve a problem.

The challenger dragged Ness into the center and covered again. Ness kicked out. Boomtown hooked both legs on the next attempt, but the champion still freed a shoulder. With two minutes remaining, Boomtown forced him upright and went for another finish, only for Ness to fight free and stagger backward into the ropes.

Boomtown followed with a running attack. Ness stepped aside, caught him on the rebound, and drove him down. The cover brought a two-count so close that Apple shouted before realizing Boomtown's shoulder had risen. Ness looked at the referee, accepted the answer, and immediately reached for the challenger again.

The final minute became a struggle over every inch. Boomtown countered a lift into a sunset flip. Ness escaped and trapped him in a cradle. Boomtown rolled through and caught a handful of leg, nearly folding Ness onto both shoulders. Ness turned onto his side, planted a foot, and fought back to his knees while the audience counted down the last thirty seconds.

Boomtown landed a forearm that knocked the champion backward. He hit another, then reached to set up Here Comes the Boom! one more time. Ness held his ground, pried at the grip, and twisted free as the count reached ten. Boomtown tried to catch him turning, but Ness trapped the attacking arm and pulled him down into a tight cradle.

The referee slid into position. His hand struck once, then twice. The bell rang before the third count could be completed.

Boomtown kicked free anyway, rolling onto his stomach and reaching toward the ropes. Ness remained sitting beside him, chest heaving, until the referee knelt to explain. Around them, half the audience was demanding five more minutes, and the other half was still arguing about how close the finish had been.
Winner: Time Limit Draw -> No Title Change!

Apple Kid: Thirty minutes! They've gone the entire limit! Ness retains the EBW X Championship, and Boomtown came within inches of taking it!

Boomtown pulled himself up by the ropes and demanded a microphone. Sweat dripped from his chin while Ness accepted the championship, taking a moment to get its weight settled on his shoulder.

Boomtown: I beat you in Arcadia. You couldn't beat me tonight. Look me in the eye and tell me we're finished.

Ness approached him slowly. Boomtown stopped looking toward the crowd.

Ness: You wrestled a hell of a match. Go ask Mac for another one. I'll bring this.

He lifted the belt slightly. Boomtown stared at it, then at the clock above the entrance. For once, he had nothing ready to say.

During the interval, Apple spoke with Christy Angel and Alison Chains about Avalon. Christy sat with a cold pack against her jaw. Alison stood beside her chair, turning a roll of wrist tape over in her hands. Both had watched the footage of Ripper Jane's return, although Alison had asked for it to be stopped before the finish.

Apple Kid: Christy, how are you feeling after the Hell Claw?

Christy Angel: I'm hoping Jane doesn't have rabies. I don't understand what happened! I mean heck and a half! She was acting tame with Hope! What happened there? We have NO idea! I'm sore. I'm mad. I also found out how many foods require chewing, which has been a terrible educational experience.

Alison's grip tightened around the tape.

Alison Chains: Aoi had my ankle. I could see you. I could see what Jane was doing, and I couldn't get there.

Christy Angel: I know. Ali, I know you were trying.

Apple Kid: Jane seemed to be trying to bring something out of you, Alison. Those slaps, the things she was saying—

Alison Chains: Yeah. She wanted a reaction, and she can have it. Look in my eyes. Do you see any fog? I'm clear. I can see. Next time, she can have it while I'm looking at her.

Christy lowered the cold pack enough to look up at her friend. Alison noticed and sat on the arm of the chair, finally putting down the tape.

Alison Chains: I'm still me, Christy.

Christy Angel: Good. I like you. You're exhausting, but I like you.

Farther down the corridor, Picky Minch was finishing his warmup when Ness returned from the ring. Picky watched the champion sit on a bench and carefully lower the belt beside him.

Picky Minch: Thirty minutes with that mouth running. You deserve a second belt.

Ness: I'd settle for some water. You ready?

Picky glanced toward the entrance. The studio lights had dimmed, and Mimi Starlight's cheerful introduction music was beginning to play.

Picky Minch: I've been getting real tired of watching somebody else's hand go up. I helped open this place. I didn't come back to spend every night proving how much punishment I can take.

Ness: Then make him wrestle you. Make him turn. Make him bend down. Don't give him the fight that's easiest for him.

Picky nodded, pulled his kneepads into place, and headed toward the ring. At the entrance, Mimi waved brightly to him while Graveshift stood behind her, his black work gear disappearing into the shadows beyond the lights.

Mimi Starlight: Hiiii, Picky! Good luck! Let's have a wonderful match!

Picky Minch: I'm going to start with surviving it and work up from there.

2. Singles: Picky Minch vs. Graveshift
-Picky moved as soon as the bell rang. He darted around Graveshift's lead side, kicked the knee, and slipped away before the larger man could turn fully toward him. A second kick brought Graveshift a step forward. Picky changed direction, dropped low, and attacked the same leg with a dropkick that made the giant catch himself against the ropes.

The reaction from the audience seemed to strengthen Picky's nerve. He seized the ankle and pulled, trying to take Graveshift off his feet before those enormous hands could reach him. Graveshift bent down and caught the back of his neck. Picky abandoned the leg immediately, turned through the grip, and struck with an elbow before ducking beneath a sweeping clothesline.

He hit the ropes and came back with both feet aimed at the knee. This time Graveshift dropped to one leg. Picky hurried behind him, clasped his hands around the waist, and tried to pull him backward. He could not finish the lift. Graveshift reached down, peeled the grip apart, and threw Picky over his shoulder with frightening ease.

Graveshift caught him rising and drove him into the corner. Picky tried to protect his ribs as the first heavy forearm came down across his upper back. The second knocked him against the buckles. Graveshift dragged him out by the arm and sent him crashing into the opposite corner so hard that he fell forward onto his knees.

Mimi clapped encouragement from the floor. Her bright voice carried through a studio that had become noticeably quieter.

Mimi Starlight: You're doing great, Graveshift! Remember the rules!

Graveshift looked toward her, then back down at Picky. He hauled the veteran up and dropped him with a crushing slam. The cover was heavy enough to force the air from Picky's chest, but Picky twisted a shoulder free at two. Graveshift remained kneeling beside him, breathing through the mask, and reached down again.

Picky caught the wrist and pulled it across his body, trying to drag Graveshift into a submission before he could straighten. The giant's free hand closed around Picky's gear. He rose, lifting Picky with him, and drove him backward into the corner to break the hold. Picky stumbled out, barely avoided a boot, and went low again. A dropkick struck the damaged knee, followed by another that caught Graveshift under the jaw as he bent forward.

Graveshift staggered. Picky scrambled to the second rope and launched himself with a flying forearm that finally sent the masked man down. He covered immediately, hooking a leg with both arms. Graveshift thrust him away before three, but the crowd had seen him leave his feet, and Picky could hear them getting behind him.

He stayed close enough to slip around the next grab and climbed onto Graveshift's back, locking in a rear naked choke. Graveshift reached for the arm across his throat. Picky tucked his head behind the giant's shoulder and squeezed harder, his expression twisted with the effort. For a moment, Graveshift's forward movement slowed.

Then Graveshift drove backward into the turnbuckles. Picky held on through the first collision. The second broke his grip, and he dropped onto the buckles, where Graveshift turned and gathered him for the Tombstone.

Picky fought as if he knew there would be no getting up afterward. He kicked his legs, struck at the mask with short, frantic blows, and shifted his weight until he slipped down Graveshift's back. Before the giant could turn, Picky dropped his hips, locked his hands, and threw everything he had into a bridging Hagen Suplex.

The lift was ugly with strain, but he completed it. Graveshift's shoulders hit the mat, and Picky forced his own body into a bridge while the referee counted. The audience rose with the second slap of the mat. Graveshift broke free just before the third, collapsing the bridge and leaving Picky clutching his lower back.

Apple Kid: PICKY ALMOST DID IT! He got him over! He nearly stole this match!

Larry Grim: He earned that chance. Every attack on the knee, every change of direction, all of it got Graveshift low enough for that throw. But Picky put almost everything he had left into it.

Picky dragged himself up and tried to take the back again. This time, Graveshift caught him before he could secure the choke. He reached over his shoulder, pulled Picky forward, and dropped him hard enough that the veteran bounced onto his side. Picky crawled toward the ropes, then turned to meet the shadow moving over him. He threw one last forearm from his knees.

Graveshift absorbed it, caught his next swing, and lifted him. Picky's boots moved desperately as he tried to find another escape, but Graveshift adjusted his grip and held him secure. In the center of the ring, he delivered the Tombstone Piledriver and folded Picky's arms across his chest for the pin.
Winner: Graveshift via Tombstone Piledriver -> Pin

Graveshift stayed over him after the bell. When Picky tried to turn onto his side, the masked man reached toward him again, and Mimi stepped onto the apron.

Mimi Starlight: Graveshift. All done. That was three.

His hand stopped. Mimi waited, her smile softer now, until he looked toward her and rose. She held out her hand, and he followed her toward the ropes, leaving the referee room to check on Picky.

Apple Kid: Picky fought for every second of that match. I thought he had it with the suplex.

Larry Grim: Graveshift had to work for this one. We also learned how little room there is to make a mistake against him.

Picky refused the stretcher when it was offered, but accepted an arm beneath each shoulder. The audience applauded him all the way up the aisle. Mimi waved to them from beside Graveshift, apparently pleased that everybody was being so supportive.

Before the main event, Larry spoke with Bashin Dan and Benjamin about the final night of block competition. Jammer stood with them, listening while Dan turned a bottle of water between his palms.

Bashin Dan: Beating Vargas matters. I'm proud of that win. It also doesn't change what happened against Zyro and Jammer. I left myself needing too much on the last night. Next time, I have to play the whole tournament better.

Benjamin: Tack had three points when he wrestled me. I had none. I still needed that win, and I fought for it. That's what makes the E1 mean something. You have to beat the man in front of you, even if you're already out of contention.

Jammer: And sometimes the man in front of you is your best friend, which makes the car ride afterward a real delight. But Dan beat the champion. Benji beat Tack. We're leaving with something to build on.

Larry Grim: Who advances tonight?

Bashin Dan: Tack, if he can keep Mike from deciding what kind of fight they're having. Mike wants him angry. Tack's dangerous when he's thinking.

Tack Angel's Locker Room

In the dressing room, Makoto smoothed the last strip of tape along Tack's ribs. He tested a deep breath and tried unsuccessfully to conceal the discomfort. Benjamin's spear in Avalon had left a reminder that would be going into the ring with him.

Makoto Angel: You can tell me when it hurts. I've been hit before.

Tack Angel: I know. I'm mostly trying to fool me. How's Christy?

Makoto Angel: Sore. Complaining. Making Alison feel better about something that happened to her. You can see the family resemblance.

Tack smiled, then looked down at the tape.

Tack Angel: I had a chance to make this simple. Beat Benjamin, and we're talking about Iwata already. Instead, I gave Mike another night to wave that stupid pillow around and talk about my wife.

Makoto Angel: He has a picture. You have me. Now stop letting him make that sound like a competition.

Tack looked up, the smile returning more naturally this time. Makoto kissed him, then put a hand against his chest before he could stand.

Makoto Angel: Beat him because you want to win the E1. I'll watch with Christy. Come find us afterward.

Backstage

Mike offered a considerably shorter assessment when Apple caught up with him near the entrance. He was pulling on a kneepad, working it carefully over the leg Trevor had punished in Avalon.

Apple Kid: Mike, Trevor Mach handed you your first loss of the tournament. How much of that match are you carrying into tonight?

Kinniku Mike: Enough to want another crack at him. Mach got me. Fine. That doesn't put Tack in Iwata. He couldn't finish me in Arcadia, and he's not finishing me tonight.

Apple Kid: You both know each other very well. Does that make this harder?

Kinniku Mike: Makes it fun. Tack's got all these buttons, and he keeps telling everybody where they are. His pride. His family. All the things he thinks he's owed. Let's see how that Star Prince act holds up when he's sitting at home watching me win his tournament.

3. E1 Climax Block A #2 Spot: Tack Angel vs. Kinniku Mike
-Mike entered alone, rolling his shoulders as the audience jeered him. Tack followed to a sustained cheer, stopping at the foot of the steps long enough to look toward the E1 graphic above the entrance. He climbed into the ring, checked the ropes, and kept his attention on Mike while the referee explained the stakes. Their three points had brought them here. This match would decide which man advanced.

The opening lockup became a contest of balance before it became a contest of strength. Mike tried to walk Tack backward, but Tack changed his footing and turned him toward the corner. Mike reversed the pressure, dug in, and forced Tack against the buckles, where he kept a forearm beneath his chin until the referee reached four.

Tack came out carefully. On the next engagement he went low, catching Mike's leg and taking him down before the larger man could establish the same grip. Mike kicked him away and rose quickly enough to avoid being trapped, but Tack had seen the hesitation as he put weight through his damaged thigh. He went after it immediately.

The first low kick drew a grunt. The second made Mike grab for the ropes. Tack stepped back when the referee called for a break, allowing Mike to come out under his own power. Mike answered with a heavy forearm, then reached for Tack's ribs. Tack caught the wrist, pulled him off balance, and kicked the thigh again.

Apple Kid: Tack watched what Trevor did to that leg in Avalon!

Larry Grim: And Mike watched Benjamin hit Tack with that spear. Neither man arrived here fresh. The first one who can make the other carry his weight is going to have an advantage.

Mike found his advantage when Tack tried to change position behind him. He hooked an arm around Tack's waist, turned sharply, and drove him into the buckles with his weight behind the collision. Tack's grip broke. Mike buried two shoulders into the taped ribs, dragged him out, and dropped him across his knee with a backbreaker that left the Star Prince struggling to straighten up.

Mike covered for two, then pressed his knee into Tack's side while pulling backward on his chin. Tack reached for the leg, trying to remove the pressure. Mike shifted before he could secure it and hauled him into a tight bodylock. Tack's feet left the mat. The crowd began clapping as he fought to keep enough air in his lungs to resist.

Tack planted a forearm beneath Mike's jaw and pushed until he could draw a breath. He struck the ear with his free hand, hit a second time, and dropped back to his feet when the grip loosened. Mike reached to gather him again and took a sharp kick to the thigh for his trouble.

He followed with a forearm that knocked Mike backward. A second put him against the ropes, but Mike came off them with a clothesline that turned Tack inside out. He covered quickly, grinding his forearm across the face, and Tack had to force a shoulder clear with both legs kicking against the mat.

Mike did not argue with the count. He dragged Tack into a seated position and went for the rear naked choke, forcing him to defend his throat while the crowd shouted warnings. Tack caught the wrist before it could settle beneath his chin. Mike used his free hand to strike the ribs, then pulled again. Tack's grip slipped, and the choke began closing.

For several seconds, Tack could only keep his chin down and fight the hands. He got one knee beneath himself, then a foot, lifting Mike's weight enough to turn them toward the ropes. Mike tried to drag him backward. His damaged leg failed to anchor him cleanly, and Tack managed another step before catching the middle rope with both hands.

The referee forced the break. Mike released at four, shoved Tack away, and ran at him as he turned. Tack ducked, caught him coming back, and hit a powerslam that shook the ring. The impact hurt Tack too. He rolled off clutching his side, taking several precious seconds before he could crawl over and cover. Mike escaped at two.

Apple Kid: Tack found a way out of the choke, but every time he has to lift Mike, those ribs are paying for it!

Larry Grim: Mike's having his own problem planting that leg. Watch both men before they attempt a big move. They're adjusting their footing, testing whether the body will do what they're asking.

Tack rose first and began building his offense through shorter attacks. A forearm stopped Mike on one knee. Another forced him upright against the ropes. Tack caught him coming out, attempted the Star Driver, and nearly lost the lift when his ribs seized. Mike dropped behind him and shoved him toward the corner, following with a crushing splash.

Mike hoisted Tack onto the buckles and began arranging him for the Muscle Buster. Tack fought the grip, struck down across Mike's shoulders, and kicked him away long enough to climb higher. When Mike came back, Tack leaped into him with a forearm that knocked them both to the mat. The audience was standing before either man began to rise.

They met on their knees, trading blows with the desperation of men who could feel their chances narrowing. Mike's next forearm knocked Tack sideways. Tack steadied himself with one hand, got back in front of him, and answered. Mike climbed to his feet and tried to pull Tack into another choke. Tack turned through the attempt, caught him before he could reset, and finally delivered the Star Driver.

The cover brought a two-count and an agonizingly late escape. Tack sat back on his heels, breathing hard, then looked toward the entrance. He seemed to gather himself at the sight of the E1 emblem. He pulled Mike up, secured the wrist, and fought through the pain in his side to deliver the WRISTCLUTCH Heaven Driver.

Mike landed close to the ropes. Tack crawled across him, hooked the far leg, and pressed his weight down as the referee counted. The audience counted with him, certain they were watching the final place in the semifinals being filled.

Just before the third slap, a hand reached from the floor and lifted Mike's free boot onto the bottom rope.

The referee saw the boot and stopped the count. Tack turned his head, confused, while the woman at ringside lowered her hand and stepped back from the apron. Green hair fell across the shoulder of her dark outfit as she lifted her face toward him.

Apple Kid: NIMBUS TENEBRAE! That's Nimbus Tenebrae! She put his foot on the rope!

Larry Grim: The referee saw the rope break. Nimbus has just saved Mike's place in this match!

Tack remained on one knee with his hand resting on Mike's chest. For an instant, the noise of the studio seemed distant to him. He knew that face, and he remembered the confidence with which she had spoken about parts of his life he could barely reach. Nimbus looked back at him with the same patient, intimate amusement.

Nimbus Tenebrae: I will find you wherever you go, my Star Prince.

Tack rose slowly. Mike was stirring behind him, and Tack could hear his boots scraping against the canvas. He forced his eyes away from Nimbus in time to meet Mike's charge, stepped aside, and sent him stumbling into the corner.

Tack Angel: Stay out of this!

Nimbus smiled. Tack followed Mike into the corner, struck him across the chest, and pulled him clear. Whatever her arrival had awakened, he was fighting to keep his attention on the match. He caught Mike's wrist again and began setting the grip for another Heaven Driver.

Nimbus stepped onto the apron.

The referee moved toward her immediately, ordering her down and placing himself between her and the ring. Tack kept hold of Mike and tried to finish the lift. Mike dropped his weight, used his free arm to strike low between Tack's legs, and tore loose as Tack folded forward.

Apple Kid: LOW BLOW! The referee's looking at Nimbus! Turn around!

Nimbus stepped off the apron as soon as the damage was done. Mike caught Tack before he could fall, drove him backward into the corner, and lifted him onto the middle buckle. Tack tried to push him away, but his arms would not hold the distance. Mike secured him, carried him out into the center, and delivered the Muscle Buster with everything he had left.

The referee turned back to find Mike covering. Tack's boot scraped weakly across the mat as the first count fell. Mike hooked the leg higher, trapping his weight over the Star Prince's shoulders, and held him there for the second count and the third.
Winner: Kinniku Mike via Muscle Buster -> Pin -> Advances as Block A #2!

The studio erupted in boos. Mike rolled onto his back and laughed between exhausted breaths, then raised an arm before the referee could reach him. Outside, Nimbus watched Tack with complete interest, barely acknowledging the man whose hand was being raised.

Apple Kid: Mike advances! Tack had him beaten, Nimbus saved him, and then she gave Mike the opening for that low blow!

Larry Grim: Kinniku Mike takes the second qualifying spot from Block A. The official saw the pin and missed both acts of interference. That's how this match got away from Tack.

Mike staggered to the ropes and pointed up at the E1 graphic. When he saw his name appear, he slapped the top turnbuckle hard enough to make the nearby fans flinch.

Kinniku Mike: THERE IT IS! Get a good look, Tack! I'm going to Iwata!

Makoto reached the ring with Geoff Garrett and Point Man close behind her. Nimbus withdrew before Makoto could get through the ropes, stepping out on the far side while the two black shirts tried and failed to keep Mike away. Makoto knelt beside Tack and supported him as he tried to sit up. Across the ring, Nimbus watched the two of them together, then turned toward the aisle.

Apple Kid: That's our E1 Climax field for Iwata Memorial Arena! But what has Nimbus Tenebrae brought back into Tack Angel's life tonight?

Larry Grim: She made sure he lost something important, then went straight to him after the bell. Mike got a place in the semifinals.

Tack finally managed to sit upright. Makoto spoke quietly beside him, keeping an arm around his shoulders, but his attention remained on the aisle until Nimbus disappeared beyond the entrance. He had come to the studio prepared to fight for one more night in the E1. As Makoto helped him to his feet, he tightened his hand around hers and kept looking toward the place where Nimbus had been.

Re: EBW - Earthbound Wrestling

Tali Mach's Office

Tali Mach had learned years ago that there were only two kinds of silence in an EBW office.

The first meant everything was somehow running smoothly.

The second meant Trevor was nearby.

She looked up from the stack of papers on her desk when the door clicked shut behind him. Trevor leaned against it with his arms folded, wearing the irritating little half smile he frequently had.

Tali narrowed her eyes.

Tali Mach: No.

Trevor blinked.

Trevor Mach: I haven't done anything.

Tali Mach: You're standing like that.

Trevor Mach: Like what?

Tali Mach: Like you've got something stupid to say.

Trevor pushed away from the door and wandered farther into the office.

Trevor Mach: That's discrimination. I could have something incredibly intelligent to say.

Tali Mach: You don't.

Trevor Mach: I don't.

Tali returned her attention to the paperwork, refusing to encourage him. She was trying to finalize the production schedule, settle a dispute, and determine why someone had apparently approved an expense report containing seven hundred dollars worth of fog machine fluid. Had Trevor forged her signature to keep up the illusion of his "poof powers"?

Trevor stopped beside her desk.

Tali continued writing.

Trevor remained there.

She could feel him looking at her.

Tali Mach: Stop.

Trevor Mach: Stop what?

Tali Mach: Whatever you're doing.

Trevor Mach: I'm admiring upper management.

Her pen stopped.

Tali Mach: Trevor.

Trevor Mach: Very impressive upper management.

Tali slowly lifted her head.

He was grinning now.

Tali Mach: I am working.

Trevor Mach: I noticed.

His eyes deliberately traveled over her for another second before returning to her face.

Tali felt warmth creeping into her cheeks.

She hated him.

Not actually, obviously.

Unfortunately, that was part of the problem.

Tali Mach: Go away.

Trevor Mach: Your face is turning red.

Tali Mach: I'm angry.

Trevor Mach: Uh-huh.

Tali Mach: Extremely angry.

Trevor Mach: You're adorable when you're extremely angry.

The warmth reached her ears.

Tali immediately looked back down.

Tali Mach: I could fire you.

Trevor Mach: Husband immunity.

Tali Mach: That isn't a thing.

Trevor Mach: Pretty sure it's in the bylaws.

Tali Mach: I wrote the bylaws.

Trevor Mach: That's incredibly hot.

Her pen slipped across the paper.

Tali stared at the crooked line she had just drawn through three separate names.

Slowly, she put the pen down.

Tali Mach: You are doing this deliberately.

Trevor placed both hands innocently behind his back.

Trevor Mach: Doing what?

Tali Mach: Trying to make me—

She stopped.

Trevor raised an eyebrow.

Trevor Mach: Trying to make you what?

Tali Mach: Irritated.

Trevor Mach: That's definitely what you were going to say.

Tali Mach: Yes.

Trevor Mach: No hesitation whatsoever.

Tali Mach: Trevor Mach, if you value your continued survival—

He came around the desk.

Tali immediately pointed at him.

Tali Mach: Stay over there.

Trevor stopped.

Trevor Mach: This line?

Tali Mach: Yes.

He took half a step closer.

Tali Mach: Trevor.

He took another.

Tali's glare became progressively less convincing.

Tali Mach: I mean it.

Trevor Mach: You're terrifying.

Tali Mach: I am.

Trevor Mach: Absolutely petrified.

By the time he reached her wheelchair, Tali was trying very hard not to smile.

Trevor crouched slightly beside her instead of looming over her, resting one hand against the edge of the desk.

His voice changed when he got close.

Not drastically. Just enough.

Trevor Mach: You know what your problem is?

Tali folded her arms.

Tali Mach: You're currently occupying most of the list.

Trevor Mach: You pretend you don't like me bothering you.

Tali Mach: I don't like you bothering me.

Trevor Mach: Right.

Tali Mach: I married you under extraordinary circumstances.

Trevor Mach: Twenty years of extraordinary circumstances?

Tali Mach: A persistent comedy of errors.

Trevor laughed softly.

He reached up and brushed a loose strand of black hair behind her ear.

That tiny gesture betrayed her far more effectively than any joke had.

Tali's shoulders tightened. Her breath caught for barely half a second.

Trevor noticed.

Of course he noticed.

His smile became unbearable.

Trevor Mach: There it is.

Tali Mach: There is nothing.

Trevor Mach: Your entire tough executive act just crashed.

Tali Mach: I will run you over.

Trevor Mach: Don't threaten me with a good time.

Tali's eyes widened.

Tali Mach: Oh come on!

Trevor laughed as she shoved his shoulder.

Tali Mach: You're disgusting.

Trevor Mach: You love me.

Tali Mach: Currently reconsidering it.

Trevor Mach: Your face says otherwise.

She knew exactly how flushed she was now, which naturally made it worse.

Tali Mach: My face isn't saying anything.

Trevor Mach: Your face is giving a whoooole promo.

Tali Mach: Shut up.

Trevor Mach: Main event level promo.

Tali Mach: Trevor.

Trevor Mach: Sold out building.

Tali grabbed his collar.

That finally silenced him.

She pulled him closer until his grin disappeared beneath genuine surprise.

For several seconds, neither of them said anything.

Tali looked directly into his eyes.

Tali Mach: You enjoy pushing your luck.

Trevor recovered quickly.

Trevor Mach: Married you, didn't I?

She tugged harder.

Tali Mach: That was almost charming.

Trevor Mach: Almost?

Tali Mach: Don't ruin it.

He smiled again, softer this time.

Trevor Mach: You know I'm crazy about you.

There it was.

The part that always made fighting him difficult.

Trevor could spend ten straight minutes being the most irritating man alive and somehow, without warning, remind her that beneath every stupid joke and every bit of swagger was the man who still looked at her like marrying her had been the best decision he'd ever made.

Tali loosened her grip.

Tali Mach: What do you want?

Trevor Mach: Dinner tonight?

Tali Mach: Last meal before the E1?

Trevor Mach: Mm-hmm. Dinner at eight!

Tali Mach: Get out.

Trevor Mach: Wear the sexy black dress!

Tali Mach: TREVOR!

He disappeared through the doorway.

Silence returned.

Tali sat perfectly still for a moment.

Her cheeks were still burning.

She looked toward the closed door.

Tali Mach: Idiot.

A smile betrayed her almost immediately.

Tali picked her pen back up, stared at the production sheet for several seconds without actually reading a word of it, and quietly muttered to herself.

Tali Mach: ...the black dress is at the cleaners.

Trevor popped his head back into the doorway.

Trevor Mach: By the way! Don't forget our little wager. If I win the E1, you-

Tali Mach: YOU DON'T HAVE TO REMIND ME! Why did I agree to that? *sigh*

-

Ted Pettentool: The Toolbox is here at Iwata Memorial Arena, and the E1 Climax has outgrown the Battle Dome! We have a packed house, a huge night ahead!

Tick: Impressively so.

Tock: Indeed.

Ted Pettentool: Walk us through it!

Tick placed a hand beside Trevor's portrait while Tock took possession of Zyro's. The explanation had scarcely begun when an arena employee handed Ted a revised running order. He read it, checked the date, and looked at the twins' board again.

Ted Pettentool: Girls, you're going to want to sit down.

Out in the ring, Little Mac waited for the cheering to settle. Tali Mach sat beside the timekeeper's area with a microphone in her lap, enjoying the sight of the upper rows filling. Larry Grim was quietly moving a small Kevin doll off his chair with the end of a rolled up program.

Larry Grim: I swear I just heard that thing called itself Big Chugga Chungus.

Apple Kid: Welcome to the E1 Climax Finale! We are live on X Premium from Iwata Memorial Arena in Onett, and listen to this place!

Little Mac: Onett, thank you. We moved this show because you wanted more seats, and you filled those too. Tonight, four men have a chance to win the E1 Climax. Before we get started, I'm changing who they have to beat to reach the final.

The response rolled through the arena in a wave of surprised voices. Mac allowed it to build before reading from the card in his hand.

Little Mac: The second place qualifiers will face each other. Kinniku Mike against EBW Champion Vargas Wargrave. The block winners will face each other. Trevor Mach against Zyro Kurogane. Those are NOT your semifinals. That's the trade off! You had a shorter field to fight through, but now we'll see how prepared you are to adapt!

At the interview board, Tock pulled so hard on Zyro's portrait that three other photographs fell off. Tick stared at the loose string in her hands. Ted lowered his microphone while the brass bell rolled under a table.

Tock: We laminated this.

Little Mac: I know you've prepared for different opponents. That's why I'm telling you now. I want to see who can adjust when the plan changes. Same stakes, same rules. Win your semifinal, come back tonight, and win again. The E1 winner goes to the front of the line for the EBW Championship.

Larry Grim: That is a substantial change. Trevor and Zyro won their blocks, and their reward is getting each other. I imagine they have opinions.

Tali Mach: Before anybody asks, yes, I knew. No, Trevor didn't. He's very good at giving me his opinions. I'm sure I'll hear this one shortly.

The four semifinalists learned the news in four different parts of the building. Mike threw his printed preparation sheet onto a bench. Vargas took his own sheet from the Auditor, tore it in half, and began tightening his wrist tape. Zyro looked at Molly, considered the change, and grinned with an enthusiasm that made her sigh. Trevor found Tali near the aisle before she had even put her microphone down.

Trevor Mach: Lady, you changed my date without asking me.

Tali Mach: You can still see Vargas later. You'll just have to get past Zyro first.

Trevor Mach: He's younger than me. Fast. Handsome. This feels personal.

Tali Mach: I married you. Apparently, I can overlook all three.

Trevor laughed and bent to kiss her cheek, earning a swat against his arm when he lingered long enough to make her blush in front of the timekeeper. He straightened before she could land another one, but his expression grew more thoughtful as he looked toward the trophy. He had spent the week imagining Vargas across the ring. Now he had to stop thinking about the man he wanted to hurt and prepare for a man who could genuinely end his night.

Behind the curtain, Alison Chains wrapped a length of chain around her hand, tested it, and unwound it again. Christy sat beside her, checking the tape on her own wrists. Ted arrived carrying two bottles of water and the determined expression he wore when trying to behave as a professional interviewer around someone he cared about.

Ted Pettentool: Alison, tonight you face Ripper Jane in a match where practically anything goes. What's your strategy?

Alison Chains: Hit her with this.

She lifted the chain.

Ted Pettentool: Right. And beyond that?

Alison Chains: If I do it enough times, I won't need anything else.

Ted lowered the microphone. Alison noticed the change and reached for his free hand.

Alison Chains: I'm not going out there to impress her. She hurt Christy. She keeps talking like she wants some old version of me. I'm tired of listening.

Christy Angel: Come back as you, okay? We already have a Jane. One is plenty. Oh, this is getting to be a lot of pressure, and I left my fidget cube in the locker room. *internal monologue* Oh, boy. A lot going on. Do me a favor. Get angry at everything for no reason. Take it out on everyone. Can you disassociate? If you ignore your problems? They might just go away. I know we've tried it before, but it'll work this time. Don't ask for help. We'll handle this in house.

Alison leaned against her for a moment before standing. Ted offered the water, which she accepted, and the three walked toward the entrance together. Jane's music was already playing.

1. Women's No Rules Singles: Alison Chains vs. Ripper Jane
-Jane waited in the middle of the ring with her hands hanging loosely at her sides. She watched Alison approach, smiling as if they had arranged a private reunion and all these people had invited themselves. Alison handed her chain to the referee long enough to remove her jacket, remembered what kind of match this was, and took it back. Jane laughed. Alison stepped through the ropes and hit her before the laughter had finished.

The bell rang as Alison drove her into the corner with a forearm. She landed another, pulled Jane out by the arm, and sent her into the opposite buckles. Jane tried to meet the charge with a boot, but Alison caught the leg, hauled her forward, and knocked her down with a clothesline. The crowd responded to the speed of the attack. Alison could still see Christy being held in the Hell Claw while Aoi trapped her ankle, and every strike carried the frustration of those seconds when she had been close enough to see it and too far away to help.

Jane rolled out of the ring. Alison followed immediately, catching her beside the steps and driving her back against the barricade. Fans recoiled as the metal rattled. Alison pulled the chain taut between her hands and pressed it across Jane's upper chest, pinning her in place long enough to bring a knee into her stomach. Jane grunted, but the grin returned when Alison pulled her upright.

Alison answered with a forearm that wiped the grin away for several seconds. She hauled Jane toward the ring, only for Jane to plant a foot against the apron and drive an elbow backward into her face. Alison staggered. Jane caught her by the hair and sent her shoulder-first into the ring post, following before she could fall to force the same shoulder against the steel again.

Apple Kid: Jane let Alison spend all that energy attacking, and she's picked the arm she wants to take away!

Larry Grim: That's the arm Alison needs to pull the Hell Claw off. Jane may enjoy being hit, but she's still planning what comes afterward.

Jane rolled her inside and fed the chain through her fingers as she followed. Alison crawled toward the ropes, trying to get her feet beneath her. Jane looped the chain over her shoulder, used it to drag her backward, and dropped a knee across the damaged joint. Alison shouted and tried to turn away, but Jane kept the arm trapped and ground her knuckles into the shoulder while talking close enough that only Alison could hear most of it.

Alison found space with a kick and shoved herself backward. Jane reached again, and Alison caught her wrist, pulled her forward, and drove a knee into her face. The impact gave Alison time to roll outside and pull a chair from beneath the ring. She returned swinging it into Jane's midsection, followed with a blow across the back, and opened it in the middle of the ring. Jane was still trying to straighten when Alison caught her and slammed her across the seat. The chair collapsed beneath them.

Alison covered, hooking a leg so tightly that Jane's knee nearly reached her chin. Jane escaped at two. Alison stayed over her, striking with short forearms while Jane tried to protect her face. The audience roared, and for a moment Alison felt the old pleasure of hearing a crowd react to how far she was willing to go. She reached for the broken chair, saw Jane watching her through the gap between her forearms, and understood that Jane was waiting for her to hesitate.

She threw the chair aside and hit Jane with both hands instead.

Alison Chains: You wanted to fight me? Fight me!

Jane fought back. Her first strike caught Alison across the cheek, her second drove into the injured shoulder, and the third turned them into an ugly scramble across the canvas. Alison ended up underneath, kicked Jane away, and came up swinging the loose chain. It struck across Jane's side and folded her against the ropes. Alison pulled her back, dropped her with a swinging neckbreaker, and covered for another close two-count.

Jane was breathing harder now. The pleasure had not entirely left her expression, but she had to work to keep Alison from taking the match away. When Alison tried to lift her again, Jane struck the shoulder and pulled the chain into the space between them, tangling Alison's arm long enough to drive her down onto the remains of the chair. Alison arched in pain. Jane crawled over her and reached for her mouth.

Alison caught the hand with both of hers. The crowd rose as she forced it backward, inch by inch, until Jane's elbow began to bend. Alison brought a knee up, turned her hips, and rolled them over, hammering Jane's wrist against the mat. She almost had it. She could feel the fingers loosening, could hear Ted shouting for her to keep going, and tried to drive herself fully upright.

Her shoulder gave her a sharp warning as Jane pulled against it. Alison's grip faltered. Jane twisted beneath her, drove a knee into her ribs, and secured the Hell Claw before Alison could recover her hands.

Alison clawed at the wrist, kicked against the canvas, and managed to drag them far enough that her boot hooked the bottom rope. Jane looked toward it and tightened the hold. There would be no break in this match. Alison tried to turn the rope into leverage instead, pulling herself sideways while striking Jane's arm with her free hand, but her movements became smaller as Jane kept her pinned beneath her weight.

Apple Kid: Alison has the rope, but it can't save her in a No Rules match! She has to get that hand out!

Larry Grim: She's trying. The shoulder damage is catching up with her. Referee, check her!

The referee knelt close, spoke to Alison, and received no clear response. Her hand slid from Jane's wrist. When she could no longer defend herself, he called for the bell and physically pushed between them until Jane released the hold.
Winner: Ripper Jane via Hell Claw -> Referee Stoppage

Ted reached the apron as the medical staff entered. Jane sat back on her heels, watched Alison begin to stir, and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. There was a swelling beneath one eye, and she had to favor her side as she stood. Alison had hurt her. That seemed to please her almost as much as winning.

Ripper Jane: We'll have to do this again.

Christy stepped between them before Jane could move closer. For a few seconds they faced each other, Christy's hands clenched at her sides, until Jane smiled and went through the ropes. Christy turned back to Alison, who had begun trying to sit up despite the medic's objections. Ted knelt on the other side, holding her uninjured hand without trying to fill the silence.

Alison Chains: Did I at least mess up her face?

Christy Angel: Yeah. You did.

Alison Chains: Good.

Ted gave a relieved laugh. Alison squeezed his hand, and he stayed beside her while the staff helped her out of the ring.

Vargas was already waiting near the entrance when Mike arrived with Darkness Aoi. The Auditor stood between them for a moment, holding the EBW Championship over one arm.

The Auditor: We prepared for Trevor Mach, but your suffering will also be rewarding. You wish you mix pleasure and pain. We will be happy to dispense some.

Kinniku Mike: I prepared for the kid who plays with toys. We've both had a bad afternoon.

Vargas Wargrave: Yours is about to get worse.

Aoi rested a hand against Mike's chest before he could step forward. She looked at Vargas, at the championship, and finally at the Auditor.

Darkness Aoi: You get the champion first. Beat him, and everybody watches the final knowing you've already beaten the champion. Try enjoying yourself.

Mike's eyes settled on the belt. He grinned, rolled his neck, and walked past Vargas close enough to strike him with his shoulder. Vargas barely moved, but the Auditor had to step back to avoid being caught between them.

2. E1 Climax Block A #2 vs. Block B #2: Kinniku Mike vs. Vargas Wargrave
-Mike began by shoving Vargas in the chest. Vargas returned it with enough force to move him two steps backward, and the first exchange became a collision of forearms before either man bothered with a lockup. Mike absorbed a strike, answered across the jaw, and tried to drive Vargas into the ropes. Vargas planted himself and hit him again. The audience, which had greeted both men with hostility, began cheering the simple fact that they were hurting each other.

Apple Kid: We have two men who usually enjoy imposing their strength on somebody else, and neither one is moving!

Larry Grim: They may have to discover a second idea. This is difficult for both of them.

Vargas found his first opening when Mike tried to change levels for a bodylock. He struck the thigh Trevor had damaged in Avalon, forced Mike to shift his footing, and drove him into the corner. Two heavy forearms followed before Vargas took him over with a suplex. Mike kicked out of the cover and rolled toward the ropes, where Aoi spoke urgently to him while the referee kept Vargas back.

Mike listened long enough to catch his breath. When Vargas approached again, Mike caught his arm, pulled him shoulder-first across the top rope, and drove a knee into his side. Vargas folded just enough for Mike to get beneath him. The ensuing throw sent the champion across the ring, and Mike followed him with a running splash before he could turn onto his stomach.

The impact established the part of Vargas that Mike intended to punish. He drove knees into the left side of the ribs, squeezed him in a bodylock, and forced him to fight for every breath. Vargas answered with short strikes to the head, but Mike kept bringing his weight down across the midsection whenever the champion created space. On the floor, the Auditor stopped offering instructions and began watching Vargas's breathing instead.

Vargas escaped a second bodylock by attacking Mike's ear and knee together. He stepped free, caught the next charge with a boot, and drove Mike down hard enough to shake the ropes. Mike rolled onto his side after the kickout, but Vargas stayed on him, threading an arm across his face and trying to secure the Crossface. Mike recognized the danger and clasped his hands before Vargas could extend him. He fought up to one knee, lifted just enough to break the position, and rammed Vargas backward into the corner.

The champion came out holding his ribs. Mike tried to gather him for the Muscle Buster, but Vargas fought from the buckles, landing elbows until Mike's grip opened. Vargas dropped to the mat, ducked a clothesline, and hit the Jackhammer. The landing punished his own side as much as he had expected. He took a breath before covering, and Mike escaped at the last instant.

Apple Kid: Vargas had to stop and breathe before he covered! Mike has done serious work to those ribs!

Larry Grim: The winner has another match tonight. Every time one of these men survives, he makes the final harder for the other one.

Mike staggered up and struck Vargas across the face, catching an eye with his thumb as he pulled away. Vargas turned toward the referee, blinking hard. Aoi used the opening to slide a small set of brass knuckles onto the edge of the apron. Mike dropped to one knee beside the ropes, closed his hand around them, and began fitting them onto his fingers.

He had chosen the side nearest Tack's seat.

Makoto felt Tack's hand leave hers before she saw what Mike was holding. Tack was across the gap and at the apron while Mike was still trying to hide the metal against his thigh. He caught Mike's hand as it dipped beneath the bottom rope and pulled the knuckles free. Mike swore, jerked backward, and rose with his attention fixed entirely on the man outside.

Tack held up the brass knuckles. The crowd roared as Mike reached through the ropes for him, abandoning Vargas for the seconds it took Tack to step safely away. Aoi shouted a warning. Mike turned back too late, and Vargas met him with the Warhammer, driving him down in the center of the ring before dropping across his chest and hooking the leg.
Winner: Vargas Wargrave via Warhammer -> Pin -> Advances to the E1 Climax Finals!

Vargas rolled off and stayed on one knee, an arm pressed against his side. The Auditor hurried to him with the championship while the referee went to retrieve the weapon from Tack. Mike lay staring at the lights until the announcement reached him. When he sat up and saw Tack watching from the floor, he began shouting loudly enough that the front rows answered him without any help from a microphone.

Apple Kid: Tack caught him! Mike was trying to steal another one, and Tack took the weapon away!

Larry Grim: He didn't strike Mike. He removed the shortcut. Vargas handled the rest.

Tack handed the brass knuckles to the referee and returned to Makoto. His hands were still shaking with anger, but he sat when she tugged him gently toward the empty chair. In the ring, Vargas refused the Auditor's first attempt to help him stand and used the ropes instead.

Vargas passed them on the way up the aisle without offering thanks. Tack had not expected any. He watched the champion leave and only relaxed when Mike and Aoi disappeared through the opposite exit, with security walking close enough to discourage a detour.

Backstage, Tick and Tock had rebuilt the tournament board with two thick strips of tape. Zyro stood beside it while Molly checked the fastening on his wrist gear. Ted's microphone had passed to Tick during his absence, and she was treating the opportunity with more enthusiasm than objectivity.

Tick: Zyro, you won Block B without losing a match. How do you feel about facing Trevor Mach?

Zyro Kurogane: Great. He moves around more than Mike. I was worried I'd spend twenty minutes trying to get out from under a big sweaty loser. Oh that Kinniku Mike. Can we wrestle? No. But is he an interesting character? Also, no. But...is he compelling? No. Have I ever enjoyed watching one of his matches? Again, no. But, will I watch more of his work? No. Trevor Mach always has the target on his back. I'm going to enjoy this.

Molly Serrano: You can enjoy it. Just remember why you're out there. Make him work before you start taking chances.

Zyro Kurogane: You got it, my short stack.

Molly Serrano: Just have to get that in there, eh? Big man?

Zyro Kurogane: Easy to be a big man, when you're so short. Love you!

3. E1 Climax Block A #1 vs. Block B #1: Trevor Mach vs. Zyro Kurogane
-Trevor waited while Zyro entered, watching his feet instead of the gestures he was making to the crowd. The younger man's confidence had survived Dan, Vargas, and Jammer, and now he had a chance to turn an unbeaten block into the biggest tournament win of his career. Trevor offered his hand before the bell. Zyro shook it, held on for an extra second, and smiled.

Zyro Kurogane: You had a whole speech ready for Vargas, didn't you?

Trevor Mach: Couple of rude gestures too. I'll see what I can recycle.

The opening exchange gave Trevor very little time to say anything else. Zyro slipped behind the first lockup, took a waistlock, and followed Trevor's attempt to break it with a quick arm drag. Trevor rolled through and came up reaching for the leg, but Zyro cleared the grab, hit the ropes, and made him turn twice before landing a sharp dropkick. Trevor rolled out under the bottom rope and stood on the floor, hands on his hips, while Zyro waited inside with the grin still in place.

Trevor took the count as time to think. Chasing Zyro would give the younger man precisely the match he wanted. When he returned, he shortened his stance, kept closer to the center, and waited for Zyro to enter his reach. The next exchange ended with a forearm to the chest, a low kick, and a tight clinch that made Zyro carry his weight. Zyro tried to peel away. Trevor pulled him back, drove a knee into the body, and took him down.

Zyro answered on the mat. He caught Trevor's right wrist, rolled through an attempted escape, and extended the arm enough to force Trevor onto his side. Trevor reached across to break the grip, and Zyro moved to the shoulder, turning it under his own weight. The pressure was brief, but it gave him something to follow. When Trevor fought upright, Zyro kept the wrist and sent him toward the ropes, snapping the arm sharply as he changed direction.

Apple Kid: Zyro is going after the right shoulder! That changes Trevor's strikes, his lifts, everything!

Larry Grim: And Trevor can't simply keep him in a clinch if holding him there hurts. Molly wanted Zyro to make him work. He's doing it.

Trevor broke free with an elbow from the other side and drove Zyro backward with a series of compact strikes. He caught him coming off the ropes, threw him down, and followed with a knee across the body for two. Zyro tried to rise quickly, but Trevor stayed close, cutting off the space he needed to build speed. A low kick made Zyro shift his stance. Another slowed the first step of his next run, allowing Trevor to intercept him and drive him into the corner.

The match settled into an argument about distance. Trevor wanted Zyro close enough to hit without having to chase him. Zyro kept looking for the extra step that would turn an ordinary exchange into a burst of movement Trevor could not match. He found it when Trevor reached with the injured arm. Zyro pulled him forward, stepped past him, and snapped a kick into his upper chest before springing onto the ropes for a flying attack that knocked both men down.

Zyro covered immediately. Trevor kicked out and tried to sit up, only for Zyro to catch the right arm again and drive his shoulder back to the mat. Trevor grimaced, rolled toward him, and forced the younger man to retreat with a knee from the ground. He got to his feet favoring that side, and Zyro saw it. The grin faded as he began pursuing the weakness in earnest.

He caught Trevor against the ropes with a running forearm, followed with another in the corner, and pulled him into position for a suplex. Trevor blocked the lift twice. Zyro changed his grip, attacked the shoulder, and completed the throw on the third attempt. Trevor landed high across his back and neck, rolling onto his stomach while Molly urged Zyro to cover rather than admire it. He listened. Trevor still escaped before three, but he had to spend several breaths on his knees afterward.

Apple Kid: This is the danger of the new pairing! Trevor wanted Vargas, but Zyro is taking this opportunity apart piece by piece!

Larry Grim: Trevor's thinking about Zyro now. Pain is quite good at getting you refocused. Or so I've heard. Skeletons don't feel pain, unless it's cold. Then the arthritis sets in.

Apple Kid: How does that even work?!

Zyro pulled him up by the wrist and began the turn for Let it Rip. Trevor recognized the change in his footing, stepped inside the lariat, and drove a Knee Trigger into him before he could complete the swing. Zyro fell backward against the ropes. Trevor caught him coming off them, hauled him across his shoulders, and tried to arrange the Burning Machismo.

His right arm would not settle securely enough. Zyro felt the hesitation, drove an elbow into the injured side, and slid free behind him. Trevor turned into a kick, stumbled, and reached for the ropes. Zyro caught the wrist before he got there. Let it Rip connected this time, the lariat striking hard enough to turn Trevor as he fell, and Zyro followed without allowing him to recover. He crossed the arms, lifted, and delivered the Straight Jacket Hagen into a tight bridge.

The count reached two with Trevor's shoulders still down. He drove through his legs, twisted against the trapped arms, and freed the left shoulder just before the referee's hand struck again. Zyro held the bridge a second longer, unable to believe the escape, before rolling away and looking toward Molly. She held up two fingers and told him to stay with it.

Trevor crawled to a knee. He could hear the crowd and the pounding of his own pulse, and for a moment it was difficult to tell which was making his head hurt. Zyro's hands closed around his wrist again. Trevor let himself be pulled upright, followed the motion instead of resisting it, and caught Zyro with a short left elbow as he turned. The impact bought him room for another Knee Trigger. Zyro dropped, but Trevor dropped with him, landing on his knees beside the younger man rather than covering immediately.

When he finally managed the cover, Zyro escaped at two.

Apple Kid: Both men have survived the other's best opening! What is it going to take?

Larry Grim: Trevor has to solve the lift. Zyro knows that shoulder won't support a long struggle. If Trevor puts him up without stunning him first, Zyro gets out again.

They rose together, leaning against each other while they tried to find enough space to strike. Zyro landed first. Trevor answered from the left. Another exchange left Zyro against the ropes, but he came off them quickly enough to catch Trevor turning. He reached for both arms again, trying to take him into another Straight Jacket Hagen. Trevor widened his stance and blocked the lift. Zyro drove a knee into his back and tried to reset, giving Trevor just enough room to free one hand and turn.

The first elbow shook Zyro. The second forced him to release the other arm. Trevor stepped away, let Zyro commit to following, and met him with a Knee Trigger that stopped him in place. Trevor gathered him immediately, bringing the weight across his shoulders before Zyro could begin fighting the position. He adjusted his feet, secured the leg with his stronger grip, and delivered the Burning Machismo without giving the damaged shoulder time to fail him.

Trevor fell into the cover and hooked the leg. Zyro tried to turn with the second count, but Trevor held him through the third.
Winner: Trevor Mach via Burning Machismo -> Pin -> Advances to the E1 Climax Finals!

For several seconds, Trevor could only lie beside him and breathe. Molly entered when the referee gave her room, kneeling near Zyro's head while Trevor rolled toward the ropes. The crowd rose for both men. Trevor sat against the bottom turnbuckle, working feeling back into his right hand.

Trevor approached once they were both standing. Zyro looked at the offered hand, at Trevor's shoulder, and finally at his face before accepting it.

Zyro Kurogane: You'd better win the damn thing now.

Trevor Mach: Planning on it. You couldn't have taken it a little easier on the arm?

Zyro Kurogane: You could've stayed down.

Trevor laughed despite the pain. Zyro pulled him briefly closer, said something the microphones did not catch, and left with Molly. He stopped on the aisle to look back at the trophy, visibly unhappy, but he kept walking when Molly put her hand in his. Trevor watched him go before allowing the referee to raise his uninjured arm.

Apple Kid: Vargas Wargrave against Trevor Mach! That is our E1 Climax final!

Larry Grim: We thought we were getting it in a semifinal. Now they've both had to survive somebody else to earn it. Vargas's ribs, Trevor's shoulder, and a lot of unfinished business are going into that ring tonight.

Tali met Trevor outside the medical room. He tried to give her a jaunty salute and stopped halfway through when his shoulder objected. She pointed him toward the examination table.

He obeyed, lowering himself with a wince while the medic began checking his range of motion. Tali moved beside the table and rested a hand against his leg. The joking expression softened as he looked down at her.

Trevor Mach: Guess I still get my date with Vargas.

Tali Mach: Go into it thinking about winning. You've already spent enough nights trying to make him pay for everything.

Trevor Mach: Just remember the wager.

Tali Mach: You're still on that?

Trevor Mach: I play to win.

Tali Mach: *blushing* Obviously.

Catering

At catering, Ted found Mimi Starlight arranging several small pastries on a paper plate. Graveshift stood beside her holding two juice boxes, each pinched delicately between fingers that looked capable of crushing the entire table. Java Coffington was waiting for a fresh pot to finish brewing, while Grind leaned against the wall with his headphones around his neck. Ted slowed when he saw the gathering, considered taking a different route, and was spotted before he could decide.

Mimi Starlight: Ted! Hiiii! How's Alison?

Ted Pettentool: She's awake, she's talking, and she's arguing with a doctor. So we're moving in the right direction.

Mimi Starlight: Wonderful! Would she like a little cake?

Ted looked at the plate. Somebody had decorated each pastry with an aggressively cheerful face. Behind it, Graveshift's breathing grew louder when a member of staff dropped a spoon.

Mimi Starlight: Graveshift. It's a spoon.

He turned toward her. She held his attention until his shoulders relaxed, then returned to selecting a cake for Alison. Ted watched the exchange and decided that his interview could remain very short.

Java Coffington: *offering cream and sugar*

Ted Pettentool: Please. Both.

Java handed him a cup. Ted thanked him, took a sip, and looked from the cup in his hand to the enormous smiling mug that was Java's head. He opened his mouth, reconsidered, and drank again.

Java Coffington: ...

Ted Pettentool: Delicious as always, from the best coffee maker in the world!

Mimi placed a pastry on a napkin and tucked it into Ted's free hand. Graveshift extended one of the juice boxes toward him with such unexpected speed that Ted flinched backward against the wall. The giant remained motionless, waiting. Ted accepted it with a small, strained smile.

Mimi Starlight: See? He's getting so good at making friends.

Grind waited until Ted had left before glancing at Java.

Grind: We have a championship match in a few minutes.

Java Coffington: *thumbs up*

Grind looked at the three empty ones beside him. Java moved them closer together with one white-gloved hand, as if reducing the space they occupied might settle the matter.

Backstage

The Weekend Wrecking Crew had gathered outside their dressing room with Ness and Arsene St. Marvelous. Geoff held his guitar case while Magnum PT went through the opposing lineup. Point Man listened with the solemn attention of someone being briefed before an operation, periodically nodding at statements.

Magnum PT: Five of them. Five of us. Keep track of your tags, don't get stuck in their corner, and if Marco reaches for that guitar, somebody knock his hand off it.

Geoff Garrett: It's staying in the case.

Arsene St. Marvelous: Intersting. Perhaps someone with nimble fingers might acquire it in a pinch.

Point Man: Point Man will secure the guitar.

Ness: Point Man also has to wrestle. Let's focus less on the guitar and more on our opponents in the ring. BDSM are not playing around. I know these guys, especially the Sharks. I've been dealing with them since I was a kid. Persistent. Very very persistent.

Point Man: The Point Man understands. You can always count on the Point Man!

Ness smiled, flexed his hands, and looked toward the ring. His ribs still remembered thirty minutes with Boomtown. Across the corridor, Boomtown was recording an introduction that referred to their draw as the night Ness had needed a clock to save his career. Ness listened for a moment, then turned back to the Crew.

Boomtown: Hey chat, guess who BDSM asked to be their partner tonight? This guy! Hahaha! Let's hope it's not thirty one minutes, Ness. No time limit to save you this time.

Ness: I'll take him first.

Re: EBW - Earthbound Wrestling

4. 10-Man Tag: Ness/Arsene St. Marvelous/Point Man/Magnum PT/Geoff Garrett vs. Marco De Leon/Daimon Kuro/Shark #1/Shark #2/Boomtown
-Boomtown began on the apron, carefully arranging himself where the largest number of people could see him. When Ness stepped into the ring, Boomtown accepted the challenge with a flourish, handed his phone to Shark #2, and entered through the ropes. Shark #2 looked down at the device, accidentally turned the image toward himself, and spent the opening exchange broadcasting his own confusion.

Ness caught Boomtown's first kick, turned him over, and took control of the arm before the challenger could establish his preferred pace. Boomtown escaped, sprang over him, and tried to meet his turn with a dropkick. Ness stopped short. Boomtown landed on his back, rolled up, and found Ness waiting with an arm drag that sent him skidding toward his corner. He tagged Marco immediately and reached for his phone.

Apple Kid: After thirty minutes together on X, Ness knows exactly how Boomtown likes to get moving!

Larry Grim: Shark #2 appears to have discovered a filter. Boomtown now has rabbit ears. It may improve his reach.

Marco came in pointing at Arsene. Ness granted the request, tagging out with a small bow that Arsene returned before stepping between the ropes. Marco attempted a cheap shot during the exchange and missed. Arsene caught the arm, spun behind him, and sent him face-first into the mat, stepping over him with a flourish that brought an approving noise from the crowd. Marco sprang up furious, charged, and found himself redirected into another takedown.

Daimon ended the sequence by reaching across the ropes and striking Arsene from behind as he passed the corner. Marco dragged him back, tagged Shark #1, and the opposing team began taking turns keeping him there. The Sharks used quick tags and low attacks, forcing Arsene to defend his legs before Daimon entered to punish the rest of him. A heavy slam brought a two-count. Daimon lifted him again and carried him toward the corner, allowing Boomtown to tag in and deliver a kick to an opponent already held in place.

Boomtown posed over Arsene after the cover failed. Ness leaned through the ropes to shout at him, giving Marco time to slip in for another attack while the referee forced Ness back. Arsene took the blow, rolled toward the wrong corner, and had to fight Shark #2's grip to keep from being dragged underneath the ropes. He finally created his opening when Boomtown tried to make the next attack unnecessarily elaborate. Arsene stepped beneath the leap, caught him landing, and drove him down before crawling toward his own team.

Magnum PT took the tag and went straight through Shark #1. He struck Shark #2 off the apron, traded blows with Daimon, and surprised the larger man by ducking underneath him and driving him backward into the corner. Marco entered to help and received a clothesline for his trouble. PT turned back to Shark #1, caught him trying to flee, and set up the Mustache Ride before Daimon broke into the ring to prevent it.

Point Man intercepted Daimon. The collision sent both men into the ropes, but Point Man kept his feet, delivered a pair of heavy strikes, and forced him through the gap to the floor. PT used the cleared space to tag Geoff. Marco tagged himself in on the other side, deciding that Geoff was a more manageable problem, and quickly discovered that the veteran had been waiting for him.

Geoff caught the first swing, struck him twice, and sent him into the corner. Marco looked instinctively toward the floor, searching for the guitar that had featured so prominently in their trouble at Avalon. He found an empty space and Point Man standing between it and the ring. Point Man shook his head with immense satisfaction.

Point Man: Point Man planned for that.

Geoff nearly caught Marco with The Stroke, but Marco twisted away and slapped Shark #2's hand before dropping to the floor. Shark #2 entered protesting the timing. He did well enough for several seconds, catching Geoff with a kick and attempting a quick cover, but Geoff escaped and pulled him into the next exchange. Around them, the match broke loose as Boomtown entered to attack Ness and discovered that Ness had been waiting for that too.

Ness drove Boomtown through the ropes and followed him to the floor. PT cut off Shark #1. Point Man met Daimon at the opposite corner, while Arsene caught Marco reaching for Geoff's ankle and dragged him away from the apron. Geoff felt the hand disappear from his boot, turned Shark #2 into position, and delivered The Stroke in the middle of the ring.

The referee counted three while Arsene kept Marco occupied and the other partners prevented a save.
Winners: Ness/Arsene St. Marvelous/Point Man/Magnum PT/Geoff Garrett[o] via The Stroke to Shark #2 -> Pin

Geoff rose with both fists raised, joined by PT and Point Man as the audience cheered. Arsene returned to the ring and shook Geoff's hand, accepting a grateful slap on the shoulder. Ness came back last, having chased Boomtown far enough up the aisle to satisfy himself without giving him another opportunity to turn the encounter into a phone recording.

Apple Kid: The Crew gets another one, and Arsene made sure Marco couldn't spoil it!

Larry Grim: Shark #2 may want to stop accepting tags from men who are already leaving.

Boomtown recovered his phone and checked the recording. His expression changed as a pair of animated rabbit ears appeared over his head. On the floor, Shark #2 saw the look, pointed vaguely toward Shark #1, and continued toward the exit before either man could question him.

Backstage

In the Dan Club dressing room, Jammer tossed a crumpled strip of tape toward a wastebasket and missed by enough that Benjamin looked up from the bench. Dan retrieved the tape, dropped it inside, and sat beside him.

Jammer: You're supposed to leave it. I was adjusting.

Benjamin: My friend, it wasn't going to happen.

Jammer: Yeah...yeah.

Dan smiled.

Bashin Dan: I'll never get tired of this. Us three, the heat of competition, and Jammer failing to sink a shot.

Jammer: Hey!

Benjamin: You two have the match. Win it.

Bashin Dan: I know. We spent a lot of time trying to get those belts together.

Benjamin: I'll watch the floor. You handle the ring.

Jammer leaned forward, elbows on his knees. The joking expression had left him too.

Jammer: We're thinking about the monster squad, I know we are. Java and Grind aren't going to stand there and let us have the moment. They want the belts back.

Bashin Dan: Stay sharp, stay ready, and stay hungry.

Benjamin held out a fist. Dan and Jammer met it, and the three stood together as their music began. On the way out, Jammer stopped to try another tape ball shot to the trash can. Couldn't have missed more if he tried.

5. EBW Tag Team Championship: Harrow(c)/Snakebite(c) vs. Java Coffington/Grind vs. Bashin Dan/Jammer
-Java offered a hand to each man. Dan accepted. Snakebite struck Java across the chest instead, only to find that the mug-headed wrestler had kept hold of his wrist. Java turned him through an arm drag, Dan caught him rising, and for several seconds Snakebite had to fight both challengers simply to get back to his corner. Harrow accepted the tag and changed the scale of the match immediately.

Dan went low while Java attacked from the side. Harrow shoved Java away, caught Dan across the upper body, and drove him into the mat. Java returned with a running dropkick that moved the champion without dropping him. Dan used that movement to strike from behind, forcing Harrow onto one knee. Java hit the ropes again, but Snakebite caught him with a knee from the apron, and Harrow rose to flatten Dan before the challengers could recover their cooperation.

Grind tagged in as Java reached his corner. He met Harrow with speed, striking and moving before the larger man could secure a grip. A running attack forced Harrow against the ropes, where Grind used the rebound to bring him down. Jammer replaced Dan and joined the scramble, catching Grind in a quick cradle that Harrow had to break to protect the titles. Grind came up annoyed. Jammer shrugged, and the match's brief alliance disappeared as both challengers remembered that they were opponents too.

Apple Kid: That's the problem with trying to work together against the champions! You still have to beat the other challengers!

Larry Grim: And Harrow only needs them looking at each other for a second.

He got the second he needed when Jammer and Grind collided near the ropes. Harrow caught Jammer, drove him into the corner, and tagged Snakebite. Grind was forced to follow them in to prevent a cover, leaving himself exposed to Snakebite's low kick. The champions began managing the two legal challengers as separate problems: keep one down, punish the other, and change places before either could build momentum. Jammer spent a miserable stretch fighting off Snakebite while Grind repeatedly had to break covers he would much rather have been making himself.

Dan shouted instructions from the apron. Benjamin moved along the floor as the Auditor approached the challengers' side, placing himself in the manager's path without taking his eyes off the match. The Auditor stopped, glanced toward his own corner, and chose to return there. Benjamin stayed where he was.

Jammer finally escaped by catching Snakebite's kick and turning it into a takedown. Grind struck Snakebite as he rose, giving Jammer enough room to reach Dan. Java entered on the other side almost simultaneously, and the pace changed before Snakebite could tag out. Dan drove him into the corner with a flurry of strikes. Java caught him coming out, struck low, and climbed while Dan kept him off balance. Java's aerial attack knocked Snakebite down, and Dan had to pull him out of the ensuing cover before three.

Java rose and met Dan immediately. Their exchange was fast and clean, neither willing to waste the opening the champions had finally given them. Dan blocked one attempt at the Caffeine Crash, Java escaped the first setup for the Brave Clash, and they traded cradles until Snakebite returned to knock both men down. Snakebite tagged Harrow, and the champions almost ended it with a crushing sequence on Dan that forced Java to dive across the cover at the last possible instant. Dan used the interruption to crawl back to his corner and tag Jammer.

Apple Kid: Java saved Dan and saved Rise and Grind's title chance with the same move!

Larry Grim: Dan won't thank him until this is over. Java wouldn't expect him to.

The former champions came closest when Grind reached in from the apron to pull Harrow off balance and Java followed with the Caffeine Crash. Jammer broke the cover a fraction before three, bringing a shout of frustration from Grind. Harrow rolled back to his corner and tagged Snakebite while Java and Jammer fought over the next opening. Dan recovered on the apron, reached for the tag, and watched Jammer fight through two opponents to get back to him. Jammer ducked under Java's arm, shoved Snakebite away as he entered, and slapped Dan's hand before falling against the ropes.

Dan entered with enough urgency to force both legal opponents back. He struck Snakebite and drove Java toward the ropes, where a collision left Java balanced on the apron. Snakebite knocked him to the floor before turning back toward Dan. Harrow tried to enter without a tag, but Jammer caught him from the apron and pulled him back down, creating the room Dan needed to focus on the legal Snakebite. Snakebite caught him coming forward, folded him for the Jackknife Powerbomb, and began the lift.

Dan shifted his weight before Snakebite could establish the position. He came down on his feet, broke the grip with a sharp strike, and delivered the Brave Clash. Snakebite hit the canvas close enough to Dan's corner that Jammer was already reaching for him when Dan turned. The tag was clear. Jammer climbed while Dan stepped through the ropes and saw Harrow gathering himself for the save.

Java was still recovering on the floor at the far corner. Grind rushed to help him and found Harrow in his way. Dan launched himself from the apron into the gathering collision, taking the big champion off his feet and giving Jammer the seconds he needed. Java pulled himself under the bottom rope as Jammer steadied himself above Snakebite and leaped.

The Slam Jam landed squarely across Snakebite's chest. Jammer hooked the leg while Java crawled across the mat, reaching with both hands. He arrived just after the referee's third count.
Winners: Bashin Dan/Jammer[o] via Slam Jam to Snakebite -> Pin -> NEW EBW Tag Team Champions!

Jammer remained on his knees, staring at the referee until the first championship was placed in his hands. Dan slid back inside, saw the belt, and threw both arms around him so hard they nearly fell over. Benjamin joined them when the referee beckoned, pulling both friends into an embrace while the crowd chanted for the Dan Club. Jammer finally stood, lifted the championship, and shouted toward the upper seats with all the breath he had left.

Apple Kid: THEY DID IT! DAN AND JAMMER HAVE WON THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Larry Grim: They competed honestly against each other in the E1, came back together tonight, and made it count. Snakebite took the fall. There is no ambiguity about who they beat.

Java sat against the ropes for a moment, looking at the champions celebrating the opportunity he had missed. Grind helped him stand. They spoke briefly, returned to the middle, and offered their hands. Dan and Jammer accepted, still breathing too hard to say much, while Harrow and Snakebite left on the opposite side under the Auditor's furious attention.

At the top of the aisle, the Auditor looked down at the single championship still resting over his arm. Vargas had been watching from the entrance, his ribs now taped beneath his gear. He took the EBW belt from the manager without speaking and walked back toward his dressing room. The Auditor followed more quickly than he had followed anyone else all evening.

Tack and Makoto were returning from checking on Christy when Nimbus stepped into the corridor ahead of them. Tack stopped before Makoto did. The familiar unease arrived with the sight of her, bringing an unwelcome awareness of how much of his own history still felt just out of reach. Nimbus glanced toward the arena, where Mike's elimination had occurred.

Nimbus Tenebrae: Does that feel like getting your place back?

Tack Angel: He was going to cheat. I stopped him.

Nimbus Tenebrae: Such a small thing to settle for. I know you want more. You're hungering for it. Ever since...the return. The darkness that invaded you might be gone, but the darkness within still exists. You are capable of becoming that on your own...maybe even...darker.

Tack started to answer, but Makoto moved beside him and met Nimbus's eyes.

Makoto Angel: Christy's about to wrestle. We're going to watch her. Get out of the way. If you want attention. I will step back into the ring and fight you. I have no problems doing that.

Nimbus looked at her, and the smile thinned slightly. Tack felt Makoto's hand close around his and chose to keep walking. He could hear Nimbus behind them, amused enough to let them leave, but he did not turn around.

6. Women's Singles: Christy Angel vs. Darkness Aoi
-Aoi waited until Christy had finished acknowledging the crowd before stepping close enough to say something about Alison. Christy's expression changed, and Aoi immediately tried to exploit it, striking as the bell rang. Christy blocked the first attack, answered with a forearm, and forced Aoi to retreat into the ropes. Aoi asked the referee for room, smiling again when Christy had to stop in front of her.

Christy refused to rush the next exchange. She caught Aoi in an arm drag, kept hold of the wrist, and brought her down again when she tried to pull free. Aoi turned toward the ropes, but Christy stepped across her path and maintained the hold in the center. The crowd appreciated the change from the opening anger. Aoi had come prepared to make her chase, and Christy was making her wrestle instead.

Aoi broke the control with an elbow across the jaw. The old soreness flared immediately, and Christy's hand went to her face before she could stop herself. Aoi saw it. She followed with a short strike beneath the chin, pulled Christy down into a headlock, and began grinding her forearm across the same area. Christy tried to create room with a knee, only for Aoi to turn with her and force her shoulders toward the mat for two.

Apple Kid: Aoi knows exactly where Christy was hurt in Avalon. She was there when Jane did it!

Larry Grim: And she's trying to make Christy angry enough to stop protecting it. So far, Christy's keeping her head.

Aoi maintained control through the middle of the match, interrupting each attempt to build speed. Christy reached the ropes and was pulled back by the hair before the referee could order the release. She fought upright and took a knee to the body. When she finally created enough room for a run, Aoi met her with a hard attack across the upper chest and covered for another two-count. Aoi sat beside her afterward, speaking with deliberate calm while Christy tried to get her breath back.

Christy caught the next reaching hand. She pulled Aoi off balance, rolled underneath her, and brought her down into a tight cradle that nearly ended the match on the spot. Aoi escaped and rose angrily, abandoning her calm long enough to charge. Christy slipped aside, sent her into the corner, and followed with a running attack that left Aoi slumped against the buckles.

The comeback gathered speed without losing its purpose. Christy struck the body to bring Aoi forward, took her down, and followed with a quick cover that forced Aoi to spend energy escaping. Aoi tried to stand near the ropes, and Christy cut off the exit with a dropkick. The audience began chanting her name as she pulled Aoi back into the middle and set up the Angel Wings.

Aoi escaped the first attempt by dropping her weight and driving Christy backward. She landed the Darkness Bomber when Christy came off the ropes, covered quickly, and got a close two-count. Christy rolled onto her side, protecting her jaw. Aoi looked from her to the referee, visibly irritated that her best opportunity had not finished the job.

She tried the same attack again. Christy ducked, turned, and caught her with the Game Over Superkick. Aoi fell toward the ropes and kept moving, slipping outside before Christy could cover. She stood on the floor for several seconds, holding her face, and began backing toward the aisle as the referee started counting.

Christy watched her take the first two steps. She remembered the countout win, Aoi walking away, and all the later opportunities that had depended on somebody else finding a way to spoil them. She stepped through the ropes on the opposite side of the corner, cutting across the floor instead of following directly, and met Aoi before she could reach the aisle. Aoi swung at her. Christy blocked it, struck back, and rolled her into the ring before the count could decide anything.

Aoi tried to catch her coming through the ropes. Christy had expected that too. She stopped on the apron, pulled Aoi across the top rope, and stepped inside as Aoi stumbled backward. Christy secured both arms, lifted, and delivered the Angel Wings squarely in the center of the ring. She covered tightly, keeping Aoi's shoulders down through all three counts.
Winner: Christy Angel via Angel Wings -> Pin

Christy stayed kneeling beside her for a moment, hearing the announcement before allowing herself to smile. She rose with the referee's help and looked toward Tack and Makoto, who were already on their feet. Tack clapped so hard that Howard quietly moved his folder out of range. Makoto blew Christy a kiss, and Christy returned it before looking toward the entrance, where Alison had appeared with Ted beside her.

Apple Kid: Christy caught her, brought her back, and pinned her in the middle! Aoi couldn't walk away from this one!

Larry Grim: Alison told her to win her own match. That's what she did. She kept control of herself long enough to take control of Aoi.

Christy reached Alison at the top of the aisle and hugged her carefully. Alison raised Christy's wrist with her good hand, and Ted encouraged the crowd to make more noise despite having no microphone. Aoi watched from the ring, rubbing her jaw and looking far less satisfied with the evening than she had when it began.

At the commentary desk, Apple discovered that Kevin was sitting beneath his notes. He picked up the paper, looked at the doll, and looked at Larry. Larry continued reading the final match statistics.

Apple Kid: You moved him.

Larry Grim: I did not.

Apple Kid: So how did he get under my notes?

Larry looked toward the entrance as the E1 trophy was carried into position.

Larry Grim: ...We have a final to call, Apple.

Apple slid his chair several inches away from the desk.

In the entrance corridor, Little Mac stopped the Auditor before he could follow Vargas toward the ring. He had already delivered the same instruction to Trevor's dressing room. The final would have no seconds at ringside.

The Auditor: My client is entitled to representation.

Little Mac: Represent him from here. Trevor goes out alone. Vargas goes out alone.

The Auditor began to object again, but Vargas took the championship from him and stepped past Mac.

Trevor waited at the other end of the corridor, rolling his taped shoulder carefully. Tali sat beside him while the last checks were made, and Tack approached from the arena floor with Makoto. For a moment, the two longtime partners regarded each other without joking. Tack had beaten Trevor at the beginning of this tournament, and Trevor had earned his way here afterward. Both men knew how easily their places tonight could have been reversed.

Trevor smiled and clasped his hand with the left. Tack squeezed once, stepped back, and let Tali have the last word. She looked at the tape, at his face, and at the entrance where his music was about to begin.

Tali Mach: Bring yourself back with the trophy.

Trevor Mach: Is that an order?

Tali Mach: As the Boss, I'm impartial, and I'll congratulate whoever wins this thing. As your wife...you bet your ass that's an order.

He bent to kiss her, gently this time, and rested his forehead against hers for a moment before straightening. Whatever happened to the belt, the house, or the place they had called their church, she was here. Their family was still here. He drew a breath, said a brief prayer under it, and walked toward the sound of the crowd.

Trevor Mach: Pitter patter, let's get at 'er.

7. E1 Climax Finals: Vargas Wargrave vs. Trevor Mach
-Vargas stood in the ring with the EBW Championship over his shoulder until the referee asked him to pass it outside. He handed it to the attendant reluctantly, following it with his eyes before returning his attention to Trevor. The belt was not being defended. That had been made clear throughout the evening, but Vargas carried himself as though allowing Trevor to win anything in front of him would be an unacceptable concession.

Trevor stepped between the ropes and tested the canvas under his boots. His shoulder had stiffened during the wait, and he could still feel Zyro's suplexes whenever he turned his head too quickly. Across from him, Vargas drew a careful breath through his nose, keeping the expansion of his left side to a minimum. Neither man looked fresh. They looked like men who had already earned the right to be tired and were about to ask their bodies for considerably more.

Apple Kid: This is it! Vargas Wargrave defeated Kinniku Mike. Trevor Mach survived Zyro Kurogane. The E1 Climax comes down to these two!

Larry Grim: Vargas has beaten Trevor twice in this new EBW, and both matches involved the Auditor. Tonight the manager is backstage. Trevor finally has the match he wanted, after another man spent an entire semifinal damaging the arm he'll need to win it.

The bell rang, and neither man charged. Vargas advanced first, forcing Trevor to choose whether to engage or give up the center. Trevor met him, took the lockup, and felt Vargas immediately pull at the taped shoulder. He broke the grip before it settled, struck the body with his left, and stepped away. Vargas followed more slowly, realizing that Trevor had come prepared to work on the damage Mike had left.

They repeated the exchange with less patience. Vargas caught the arm and drove Trevor into the ropes, keeping his weight against the injured side until the referee ordered a break. Trevor used the release to step around him and strike the ribs again. Vargas answered with a forearm that knocked him backward, followed him across the ring, and drove a shoulder into his midsection before lifting him into a hard throw.

Trevor landed across his back and rolled toward the corner. Vargas followed rather than cover, taking control of the right wrist and bringing him upright by the injured arm. He twisted it behind Trevor's back, forced him chest-first into the turnbuckles, and leaned into the joint. Trevor's expression tightened. He drove an elbow backward with his left arm, creating enough room to turn, but Vargas caught the movement and knocked him down with a short clothesline.

The first cover brought two. Vargas remained close, trapping the arm against the mat while dropping his weight across the shoulder. Trevor pushed at his face with the free hand, tried to turn his hips, and was forced flat again. He could feel the same danger that had ended their first title match beginning to take shape. Vargas knew how to hold him where strength alone would not get him free.

Trevor stopped trying to push straight up. He brought his knees beneath him, shifted toward Vargas's injured side, and drove a short strike into the ribs with what room he had. Vargas's grip loosened. Trevor struck again, got one foot planted, and rose far enough to force the champion back. Vargas answered with a boot, but Trevor caught the leg and turned it aside, using the opening to drive a knee into the body.

The reaction was immediate. Vargas bent forward and took a step backward before he could hide it. Trevor followed with a left forearm, another knee to the side, and a hard kick that left the champion against the ropes. He reached to pull him out, remembered the vulnerability of his right arm when Vargas caught it, and had to use a headbutt to escape before the hold could be reapplied.

Apple Kid: Neither man can do everything he wants to do! Trevor keeps having to change his grip, and Vargas can't take those body shots the way he normally would!

Larry Grim: That's the tournament showing up in the final. They have to win with what they've got left.

Vargas changed the pace by forcing the fight outside. He sent Trevor through the ropes, followed him down, and drove him shoulder-first against the apron. Trevor tried to answer with a kick, but Vargas caught him before he could reset and shoved the injured side into the ring post. Trevor fell to one knee, pressing his hand against the floor while the crowd shouted warnings that arrived too late to help.

Vargas approached to lift him. Trevor struck the ribs, slipped his grip, and drove him backward against the edge of the apron. The champion's breath left him in a sharp grunt. Trevor wanted to follow with another attack, to keep him there and make every remembered interference feel expensive, but the referee's count had reached seven. He looked toward the ring, gathered Vargas by the arm, and rolled him inside before following.

He covered immediately. Vargas kicked out at two and turned onto his stomach, protecting his side. Trevor stayed beside him, using his left arm to control the head while driving short knees into the body. Vargas tried to rise and was forced down again. The crowd began clapping with each effort Trevor made to keep him there, recognizing the patience they had not always seen from him in this rivalry.

Vargas broke the control by catching Trevor's right arm as it reached across him. He pulled sharply, forced Trevor off balance, and turned the opening into the Crossface. Trevor's legs kicked against the canvas as Vargas settled his weight. The shoulder was trapped, the pressure across his face was immediate, and the referee dropped beside him to ask whether he wanted to continue.

Trevor answered by moving his left leg. He could not reach the ropes with his hand from that angle. He had learned what happened when he stretched everything toward one desperate fingertip. He worked his hips instead, dragging them both a few inches at a time while Vargas tried to flatten him. Each movement forced the champion to tighten his damaged ribs. Trevor felt the pressure change whenever he did it and kept turning until his boot could search behind him.

His heel caught the bottom rope. The referee saw it, called for the break, and counted when Vargas refused to release immediately. Vargas let go at four and rose glaring down at him. Trevor stayed against the rope for several breaths, flexing his free hand and forcing himself to lift his head.

Apple Kid: He got there! Trevor found the rope!

Vargas did not allow him a long recovery. He pulled Trevor from the ropes, drove him into the corner, and followed with a brutal series of strikes. Trevor covered the right side of his head as best he could and answered when Vargas paused to breathe, digging the left fist into the body. Vargas struck harder. Trevor's legs gave enough that he sat against the middle buckle, and Vargas hauled him back up for a suplex that left both men on the mat.

The champion crawled over and hooked the leg. Trevor escaped at two. Vargas covered again with more weight across the shoulders, and Trevor had to twist sharply to free the left side. That escape hurt the right shoulder enough to bring a shout out of him. Vargas heard it, reached for the arm, and tried to drag him back into the Crossface before he could recover.

Trevor rolled with the pull and forced Vargas into a quick pinning position. The champion had to abandon the hold to avoid being caught. He rose angrily, walked into a left elbow, and staggered just far enough for Trevor to find room for a running knee to the body. Vargas folded, and Trevor followed with a Knee Trigger that knocked him down.

Trevor covered tightly. Vargas lifted a shoulder just before three, bringing a disappointed roar from the crowd. Trevor stayed kneeling over him, considering the lift he would need for Burning Machismo. His shoulder throbbed when he flexed it. He could hear Tali's instruction as clearly as if she were beside him: bring himself back with the trophy. Trying to hold Vargas in place through a struggle would give the champion another chance to attack the joint. He needed a better opening.

He pulled Vargas up and struck the body again. Vargas answered with a forearm, then another, forcing Trevor backward through the center. They traded until both were leaning forward, their attacks growing shorter as fatigue took away the room for anything elaborate. Trevor landed an elbow. Vargas responded hard enough to knock him against the ropes and followed before he could clear them.

Trevor stepped aside at the last instant, tried to gather Vargas as he turned, and nearly got him across his shoulders. Vargas drove an elbow into the taped side and came free. Trevor stumbled, lost half a step, and Vargas caught him with the Warhammer.

The impact silenced the nearest rows before the rest of the arena understood what had happened. Vargas dropped into the cover and hooked both legs, pulling Trevor away from the ropes with his own body weight. The referee counted twice. Trevor turned with what strength he had left and forced one shoulder clear just before the third count.

Apple Kid: TREVOR KICKED OUT! HE KICKED OUT OF THE WARHAMMER!

Larry Grim: Barely. Vargas got almost everything on it, and Trevor had nowhere to reach. That escape took a lot out of him.

Vargas remained over him, staring at the referee's raised fingers. He checked the position of Trevor's shoulder as though looking for a reason the result should have been different. There was none. He stood slowly, holding his side, and pulled Trevor up until they were almost face to face. Trevor's feet moved without much certainty beneath him, but his eyes stayed on the champion.

Vargas attempted the Warhammer again. Trevor fought the positioning, landed a short strike to the ribs, and used the momentary hesitation to step clear. He tried a Knee Trigger, but Vargas caught enough of it to keep from falling and dragged him down into another Crossface. This time they were in the center. Trevor looked toward the ropes, saw how far away they were, and felt the pressure on his shoulder increase as Vargas settled lower.

The referee asked him again. Trevor did not answer immediately. His left hand opened against the canvas, then closed. Vargas tightened his grip, breathing hard through the pain in his own side. The audience clapped, shouted, and pleaded without being able to give Trevor the few feet he needed. He began to push up and nearly collapsed as the trapped shoulder refused the weight.

He changed direction. Instead of trying to drag Vargas toward the ropes, Trevor tucked his knees farther underneath himself and turned into the champion. It hurt enough that he had to stop halfway, his face pressed against Vargas's arm. He kept his legs moving. Vargas tried to follow, but the twist compressed the side Mike and Trevor had been working all night. His weight shifted backward, and Trevor carried the motion through until Vargas's shoulders were on the mat.

The referee moved into position. Vargas held the Crossface through the first count, believing he could finish the hold before the pin became a problem. At two, he had to release and turn away. Trevor rolled onto his stomach, free, while Vargas scrambled up furious that the same pressure he had been using to end the match had almost cost it.

Apple Kid: Trevor turned him over! He made Vargas let go!

Larry Grim: Those ribs stopped Vargas from following the roll. All the body work mattered. Trevor gave himself an escape he could actually reach.

Vargas grabbed him by the hair and hauled him upright. Trevor struck the body with his left, absorbed the answering forearm, and struck it again. Vargas tried to close the distance for another power attack, but Trevor drove a knee beneath his ribs and followed with a left elbow across the jaw. The champion staggered, steadied himself, and came forward once more.

Trevor met him with a Knee Trigger. Vargas dropped to one knee but refused to fall completely, reaching for Trevor's leg as he tried to rise. Trevor caught the wrist with his left hand, pulled him into another short elbow, and made him lift his head into a second Knee Trigger. Vargas lost the grip. Trevor moved immediately, drawing him across his shoulders before the champion could find the injured arm again.

The weight almost stopped him. Trevor adjusted his stance, felt his right side threatening to give way, and secured the leg with his left before Vargas could start fighting free. He took the final step he needed and delivered the Burning Machismo, driving the champion into the canvas in the center of the ring.

Trevor landed awkwardly and had to crawl the last few inches into the cover. He hooked Vargas's leg with the left arm and pressed his chest across both shoulders. Vargas moved at the second count, trying to turn, but Trevor stayed with him and held the cover through the third.
Winner: Trevor Mach via Burning Machismo -> Pin -> E1 Climax 2026 Winner!

The bell disappeared beneath the roar of the arena. Trevor remained across Vargas for a moment, waiting for the referee to touch his shoulder before trusting that the match had ended. When he rolled away, he lay flat on his back and stared up into the lights, chest rising and falling while his name echoed from every side of the building. The referee took his left wrist and lifted it from the mat, and Trevor finally began to smile.

Apple Kid: TREVOR MACH HAS WON THE E1 CLIMAX! HE BEAT ZYRO! HE BEAT VARGAS! HE HAS DONE IT HERE IN ONETT!

Larry Grim: After losing to Tack on the first night, he won every match he had to win. Benjamin, Mike, Zyro, and now the EBW Champion. He earned this tournament. Mr. E1 does it again!

Vargas retrieved the EBW Championship from ringside and held it against his chest as he left. Trevor watched him for several seconds without trying to follow. Little Mac presented the trophy while the referee supported Trevor's left arm. Trevor took the cup carefully, felt the pull in his shoulder, and settled it against his chest instead of trying to hide how badly he hurt. The crowd cheered again when he raised it with his good arm, and he laughed through an exhausted breath as gold streamers began falling across the ring.

At the entrance, the Auditor started speaking to Vargas. Vargas kept walking until the manager caught up and reached for the championship. The champion pulled it closer to his side.

Vargas Wargrave: Enough. Walk.

The Auditor closed his mouth and followed him out of sight.

Dan and Jammer appeared near the aisle with their new belts, Benjamin beside them. Christy followed with Alison and Ted. The Crew joined them as Trevor accepted a microphone. Tack stood next to Makoto, watching his friend with a complicated expression that eased when Trevor found him in the crowd and lifted the trophy toward him.

Trevor Mach: You got me on the first night, pal. Had to work a little harder after that.

Tack laughed and applauded. Trevor turned toward the entrance Vargas had used, adjusted the cup against his side, and waited until the crowd gave him enough room to speak.

Trevor Mach: Vargas, you're still the EBW Champion. I know that. You beat me, you beat me again, and I said I'd earn my way back. Here I am. Next time, you'll bring me my belt, and I'm going to take it home.

The response left him smiling again before he could continue. He looked around Iwata, taking in the people still standing in the upper rows, the families near the floor, and the wrestlers who had followed the EBW name to this new beginning.

Trevor Mach: Onett, thank you for filling this place. Thank you for sticking with us. We've got new tag champions, we've got people fighting their way back, and we've got a lot more wrestling left to do. I need about five minutes, an ice pack, and somebody who can open a water bottle for me.

Tali waited at the foot of the entrance ramp. Trevor left the ring with help from Mac, made his way toward her, and lowered himself carefully until they were close enough that he did not have to speak over the crowd. She touched his face, checked the shoulder with her eyes, and smiled when he placed the trophy across her lap so he could free his good hand. She pulled him into a kiss.

Back at the interview area, Tick finally secured Trevor's portrait in the winner's space. Tock held the board steady while Ted retrieved the little brass bell from beneath the table. It had taken most of the evening, but their tournament diagram was finally correct.

Tick: Finished.

Tock: Nobody change anything.

Larry looked from the celebration to Apple Kid, who was standing halfway out of his chair and applauding. The Kevin doll remained on the table, facing the ring, but somehow it had adjusted itself towards Jammer and Dan.

Apple Kid: New tag team champions in Bashin Dan and Jammer! A huge victory for Christy Angel! And Trevor Mach is your E1 Climax 2026 winner! What a night for EBW!

Larry Grim: Vargas leaves with the championship and a challenger who has just proved he can beat him. We'll see where that takes us. For tonight, let Trevor enjoy this one.

Trevor rose beside Tali as the crowd began chanting his name again. She steadied the base of the trophy while he lifted it, his taped shoulder held close and his good arm doing most of the work. The two new tag champions raised their belts nearby, and Christy leaned against Alison while Ted made certain nobody bumped her injured side. For a little while, the arguments, the unfinished threats, and the people waiting to make tomorrow difficult could wait outside the circle gathering around them. Iwata was still cheering, and Trevor stayed there long enough to hear all of it.

Re: EBW - Earthbound Wrestling

Tick and Tock had brought their tournament board back from Iwata Memorial Arena. Most of the string was gone, the bottom corner was held together with tape, and Trevor Mach's picture occupied the winner's space. Ted Pettentool sat beside it, checking his phone while the twins argued over whether they could charge Little Mac for business expenses. When the show's music started, Tick pushed the receipt under her notes and Tock turned the damaged corner toward the wall.

Tick: Welcome to EBW World! The E1 Climax is over, Trevor Mach has won the tournament, and we have finally finished this board!

Tock: If Little Mac changes anything else, he can make his own.

Ted Pettentool: We also have new tag team champions, a very angry former semifinalist, and an announcement about our next X Premium event. We'll hear from both men who fought in the final, and Tack Angel will be joining us here in the studio.

Tick: First, how's Alison?

Ted set his phone down. He had checked it several times before they went on, although Alison had already told him to stop asking whether she needed anything. The last message included a photograph of her gaming controller and an instruction to get on with his job.

Ted Pettentool: Sore. Angry. She's resting the shoulder, and Christy's with her. She told me to make sure we said the referee stopped the match. She didn't give up.

Tock: She absolutely did not give up. Jane had to work for that win, too.

Ted Pettentool: That's part of what worries me. Jane seemed pleased that Alison hurt her. When somebody tells you they want to do that again, and they're smiling through a swollen face, I don't know what you're supposed to say.

Tick: No would be a good start.

The monitor behind them replayed the early stages of the No Rules match. Alison drove Jane into the corner, brought the chair into play, and nearly put her away before the damage to her shoulder caught up with her. Ted watched until Jane secured the Hell Claw, then returned his attention to his notes. Tock reached across the desk and stopped the replay before it went any further.

Tock: Oh my cog! Jane just keeps talking about the old Alison. The Alison we watched was fighting because Jane hurt her friend. Alison values her friendship. It doesn't matter if she's the "old" Alison or not.

Ted Pettentool: Thank you. That's exactly what Ali said afterward. There were more swear words when she said it.

Tick: Of course.

Ted Pettentool: Christy gave them something else to think about later in the night. Darkness Aoi tried to leave again, Christy brought her back, and Angel Wings settled it in the middle of the ring. Aoi couldn't turn that one into a countout.

Christy's victory replaced Jane's on the monitor. Ted smiled at the sight of Alison waiting for her afterward, keeping her injured arm close while Christy embraced her. Tick allowed the celebration to finish before bringing up the tournament results. She had prepared those on a single sheet of paper this time.

Tick: Now, the switch. Kinniku Mike against Vargas Wargrave, and Trevor Mach against Zyro Kurogane. Second place against second place, first against first. None of them got the semifinal they expected.

Tock: Neither did we. We had researched the other matches.

Ted Pettentool: You had written Zyro's name inside a heart.

Tock: Don't get your sprockets in a twist! We had also underlined it.

Tick: The important thing is that Vargas and Trevor adjusted. Mike tried to get himself another advantage, and somebody in the front row noticed.

Tack Angel joined them with Makoto, pausing to inspect the remains of the tournament board before taking his seat. Makoto sat beside him and greeted Ted.

Ted Pettentool: Tack, Mike says you cost him the E1 Climax.

Tack Angel: Mike says a lot of things. A lot of things. A lot a lot a lot of things. So many things. Always with the things.

Tick: He was quite specific about this one. Several times. Security heard most of it.

Tack Angel: I took the knuckles away. I didn't hit him, I didn't trip him, and I didn't put him in front of the Warhammer. He did that last part himself.

Tock: Were you trying to help Vargas?

Tack Angel: No. I was trying to stop Mike from cheating. Vargas happened to be the man standing behind him. He doesn't owe me anything, and I'm not expecting a thank you card.

Makoto folded her hands in her lap while Tack watched himself hand the weapon to the referee. He had gone to Iwata intending to support Christy and Trevor. Seeing Mike take his place in the semifinals had been difficult enough. He looked away from the monitor when it reached the pin and turned back to Ted.

Tack Angel: I had a chance to earn that spot. Mike needed Nimbus to get past me. Before that, it was Aoi, or somebody from BDSM getting involved, or Mike showing up when I was trying to wrestle somebody else. I'm tired of chasing him around other people's matches.

Ted Pettentool: Nimbus approached you again at Iwata. Has she said anything that explains why she helped him?

Tack Angel: Nothing useful. She wants a reaction out of me, and she knows how to get one. I don't have an answer for you yet. I do have an answer for Mike.

Tack leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees. Makoto stayed quiet and let him speak.

Tack Angel: Kinniku Mike, the next big show at the Battle Dome, I want you. You and me, one on one. You've had plenty to say about my wife, my family, and what you think I've become. Come say it where I can do something about it.

Tick: That sounds pretty clear.

Makoto Angel: It was clear at home, too. He practiced it while I was trying to make breakfast.

Tack Angel: Makotoooo!

Ted laughed, and Tack managed a smile before the conversation returned to the final. Trevor's victory had brought him out of his seat at Iwata. Watching it again did the same thing to his expression, although he remained seated this time.

Ted Pettentool: Was it difficult watching Trevor win the tournament when you beat him on the first night?

Tack Angel: Watching my friend win? No. Watching the final and wishing I was in it? Of course. I wanted to win the E1. I'm not going to pretend I went into it hoping everybody had a nice time. Trevor lost to me, got himself back into it, and won the thing. I'm proud of him. I'd still like another match with him.

Tock: So the Mega Dudes are okay?

Tack Angel: We're fine. He sent me a picture of the trophy this morning.

Makoto Angel: Six pictures. Different angles. Then he used AI to make a bunch of silly pictures with Tack in them. Giving that man access to AI was a horrible mistake.

Tock: While we wait to hear whether Mike would like to wrestle Tack or continue shouting about him, we need to talk about the new tag team champions.

Dan and Jammer appeared on the monitor with their belts, Benjamin beside them. The replay showed Dan escaping Snakebite's powerbomb and landing the Brave Clash, then making the tag. Jammer climbed for the Slam Jam while Dan went after Harrow, and Java arrived a moment too late to break the cover. Ted let the replay run through the three friends celebrating before he spoke.

Ted Pettentool: Dan and Jammer are the champions. Jammer pinned Snakebite, and the champions lost the deciding fall. Java and Grind were right there at the end, but they still came back to shake hands. I'd like to see those two teams get another match together.

Tick: Benjamin deserves some credit, too. He and Dan had been chasing those belts together. It would have been easy for him to resent Jammer getting that opportunity.

Tock: Instead, he watched the floor and made sure the Auditor kept his distance. That's what a friend does. Friendship powers the Dan Club, it always has. If only they knew the fate of their fourth member though.

Ted Pettentool: Huh? Chungus? Well speaking of people keeping their hands off things, Geoff Garrett still has his guitar. Arsene stopped Marco from interfering, Geoff put Shark #2 down with The Stroke, and the Crew's team won the ten man tag.

Ted's phone vibrated as the replay reached Boomtown checking his recording. He glanced at the message and shook his head.

Ted Pettentool: Boomtown would like us to remind everybody that he wasn't pinned.

Tick: Neither were we.

Tock: Another successful night for this desk.

Ted Pettentool: You're not supposed to be pinned.

Tick: Exactly.

Tock: The pin would be the event flag leading to a loss.

Ted Pettentool: No, I mean- forget it. Boomtown, he can take it up with Ness.

Before Ted could move on, a member of the production staff brought him an envelope. Tick and Tock leaned toward it as he opened it.

Ted Pettentool: This is from Little Mac. The E1 winner has his championship match. At the next X Premium event, live from the Onett Battle Dome, it will be Vargas Wargrave defending the EBW Championship against Trevor Mach. Vargas versus Trevor IV, at Demon Boogie!

The new event graphic appeared behind them. Joe Bob Briggs walked onto the set carrying a drink and looking at the graphic over Ted's shoulder. He had found himself a chair before anybody finished introducing him.

Joe Bob Briggs: Well, that sounds like a pleasant evening. Two grown men trying to beat each other unconscious, and afterward somebody hands the winner a belt. I've sat through horror movies with less plot than that.

Ted Pettentool: Joe Bob Briggs, everybody! Welcome back to EBW.

Joe Bob Briggs: Glad to be back. I was watching that big fellow in the mask backstage. Does he work here, or have I arrived during an incident?

Tick: Graveshift? He works here.

Joe Bob Briggs: Good. Nobody seemed concerned, so I figured he was either on the payroll or I'd missed the first twenty minutes of the movie. See, I like this time of year. Everybody suddenly remembers horror movies exist, and some of us have been watching them since January. You don't need permission from a pumpkin to put on a monster movie. Get your friends together, find something good or something wonderfully terrible, and spend an evening yelling at a man who won't leave a haunted house or a dumb bimbo who ran upstairs instead of out the front door.

Tock: What's wrong with staying in the haunted house?

Joe Bob Briggs: Depends on the house. If the plumbing's making noises, call somebody. If the plumbing knows your mother's maiden name, get out. We can argue about whether it's a ghost after we've reached the car.

Tick: You must have a favorite kind of horror movie.

Joe Bob Briggs: I like one that commits to what it's doing. The Dusty Dunes Chain Saw Massacre doesn't spend its time apologizing for being nasty. The Evil Bread gets a bunch of people into a cabin and carves them up. You can scare people with very little if you know what you're doing. And if you don't, you can still entertain me with a rubber monster falling down some stairs. I've paid to see both.

He took a drink and looked back at the event graphic. His eyes moved from Demon Boogie to the smaller line announcing Vargas versus Trevor IV. He frowned and pointed with the microphone.

Joe Bob Briggs: Hold on. Where's the four?

Ted Pettentool: Vargas versus Trevor IV. It's underneath.

Joe Bob Briggs: Not their four. Demon Boogie's four. We had a four on that name. Now it's just Demon Boogie again.

Tick: New EBW.

Joe Bob Briggs: Ah. It's a reboot.

Tock: The old shows still happened though.

Joe Bob Briggs: Soft reboot.

Ted Pettentool: Most of the same people are still here. Their history still matters.

Joe Bob Briggs: Have any of them got children wrestling now?

Tick: Several.

Joe Bob Briggs: There you go. Generational sequel with the same name as the original. Bring back the old cast, introduce some young people, and make everybody specify which Demon Boogie they mean for the next twenty years. Horror movies have been doing that for ages. Wrestling's finally caught up. Doesn't bother me. You can call it whatever you like. I'll be there to host it again this year. Demon Boogie, at the Battle Dome, on X Premium. We'll talk horror, watch some fights, and see whether Trevor Mach can get his championship back.

Joe Bob moved to a chair beside the set as the staff cleared a place for the champion. He was still asking about Graveshift when Vargas arrived with the Auditor. Vargas carried the EBW Championship himself and lowered it onto the desk, keeping one hand on the strap. There was stiffness in the way he sat, and he adjusted his jacket carefully over the ribs Mike and Trevor had worked on at Iwata. The Auditor remained standing beside him.

Ted Pettentool: Vargas, you've heard the announcement. Your fourth match with Trevor, and the championship will be on the line. Before we get to that, what happened in the final?

The Auditor: Our client competed under a last minute alteration to the advertised tournament structure, sustained considerable damage against an opponent he had not prepared for, and was subsequently required to—

Vargas Wargrave: He pinned me.

The Auditor stopped. Vargas kept his attention on Ted, making him wait a moment before continuing.

Vargas Wargrave: You watched it. Everybody watched it. He got me up, he hit Burning Machismo, and I didn't get my shoulder up. That's what happened.

Tick: You're not blaming the switch?

Vargas Wargrave: Trevor got a different opponent, too. I'm not sitting here complaining because Kinniku Mike hit me hard. That's his job. Mine was to beat him. I did.

Tick: There's something else we wanted to ask. You weren't wearing your eye patch during the E1.

Tock: Was that a deliberate change?

Vargas took the glasses off and laid them beside his belt. One eye was completely white. He leaned toward the twins, giving them a clear look, and smiled as Tock stopped moving her pen.

Vargas Wargrave: It's much more terrifying having to stare this down, isn't it?

Tick: ...Yes.

Tock: We noticed.

He left the glasses on the desk. Ted swallowed and continued.

Ted Pettentool: Trevor looked you in the face at Iwata and beat you. What changes at Demon Boogie?

Vargas turned toward him. Ted held his gaze, although his fingers tightened around the microphone. The champion looked at him for several seconds before answering.

Vargas Wargrave: I won't give him the same escape twice.

Tick: He also kicked out of the Warhammer.

Vargas Wargrave: Once. Let's see him do it again.

The Auditor: The fact remains that my client holds two victories over Trevor in championship competition. Trevor won a tournament final. He did not win this. His tolerance to pain was quite remarkable. It always has been. When his wings were ripped from his back, that didn't break him either.

Ted Pettentool: His what?

Vargas Wargrave: He wants this back. I want him back in front of me. Mac didn't have to convince either of us.

Ted Pettentool: Are you saying you respect what Trevor did?

Vargas Wargrave: Respect? I respect pain. I respect anger. I respect hate. They fuel me to be more bloodthirsty. I spent years wallowing in pain, falling onto broken glass in near empty rooms for this. This is the top prize. This is what I'm here for. This is everything for everyone that laces up the boots, and prepares to hurt another human being.

Vargas stood and lifted the championship onto his shoulder. He put his glasses back on, and looked toward the side of the set where Joe Bob sat with his drink. Joe Bob gave him a polite nod. Vargas held the look long enough to make it uncomfortable before walking past him, with the Auditor following.

Joe Bob Briggs: Well, I don't think we'll need to rent a monster.

Tock: You could have said that while he was here.

Joe Bob Briggs: Certainly could have.

Trevor arrived next, his right shoulder still taped beneath an open shirt. Tali accompanied him with the E1 trophy resting across her lap.

Trevor Mach: They told me you'd be here. I should've brought something for you to sign.

Joe Bob Briggs: You've got a perfectly good trophy right there.

Tali Mach: No.

Trevor Mach: That was quick.

Tali Mach: You were considering it.

Trevor Mach: That's Joe Bob Briggs, babe.

Tali Mach: I know who that is!

Trevor Mach: Monstervision!

Tali Mach: I watched it too!

Trevor laughed and settled back as Ted congratulated him. The trophy stood between them, its gold handles framing the E1 emblem and the black base carrying the year. Trevor glanced at it while Tick brought up the semifinal. Tock had already found the part where Zyro nearly caught him.

Tick: You had to beat two very different opponents to win this. How close did Zyro come to ending your night?

Trevor Mach: Close enough. I tried to slow him down, and he started pulling my shoulder apart. He wasn't just running around talking smack. He had a plan, and it was a good one.

Tock: He nearly got the Straight Jacket Hagen.

Trevor Mach: I was there, Tockleton. I remember. You two sound disappointed.

Tick: We can appreciate a good performance.

Tock: Tockleton?

Trevor Mach: So can I. He gave me one. He'll watch it back, find what he thinks he should've done differently, and want another go. That's how he is. I'll probably complain about it when it happens, but I'd wrestle him again.

Tali rested a hand on the arm of his chair as the final replaced the semifinal on the monitor. The tape across Trevor's shoulder showed when he shifted forward. He watched Vargas catch him in the Crossface without making a joke, following the movement of his own legs as he searched for the rope.

Ted Pettentool: What were you thinking here? The first time you fought Vargas for the championship, you reached the rope and the Auditor took your hand away. At Iwata, you went for it with your foot.

Trevor Mach: I was thinking that my arm hurt like hell and my leg still worked. There wasn't much room for a grand plan. I knew where the rope was. I had to reach it before he could drag me back.

Tock: Later, you couldn't reach it at all.

Trevor Mach: Right you are, Tockleton. So I rolled him over. I'd been hitting those ribs whenever I could, and when he tried to follow me, he couldn't hold the position. I needed him to choose between keeping the hold and getting pinned. He chose to let go. Very considerate of him.

Ted Pettentool: Vargas said he won't give you that escape twice.

Trevor Mach: I believe him. He's going to watch that match as much as I am. I'm not walking into Demon Boogie expecting him to cooperate because I won the last one.

The monitor reached the Warhammer. Trevor winced at the landing, and Tali looked away briefly. Ted waited until the kickout before continuing. There was plenty to celebrate about the final, but neither of them had forgotten how close Vargas came to winning it.

Ted Pettentool: He also wants to know if you can kick out of that again.

Trevor Mach: I'd prefer not to find out, Tedster. That's part of the preparation. Stop the very large man from doing the thing that hurts.

Tali Mach: I'd support that plan.

Tick let the replay finish with Burning Machismo and the deciding pin. For a moment he looked as pleased as he had at Iwata. When Ted asked about the championship, he turned back to the desk and listened carefully.

Ted Pettentool: Vargas versus Trevor IV is official. The Auditor says Vargas won both championship matches, and all you've done is win a tournament final.

Trevor Mach: All I've done? He ought to try it. It was THE tournament final. The E1 Climax! Look, Vargas is still the champion. I haven't called myself champion, and I didn't take his belt home. I said I'd earn another chance. I went through the E1 and pinned him in the final. If that doesn't earn it, what does?

Tick: Nobody here is disputing that.

Trevor Mach: Good. Thank you, Ticklesworth. Saves me carrying this thing into every argument.

Tick: My name is Tick.

Tock: And I'm Tock.

Tick and Tock: Like a clock!

Trevor Mach: Uh-huh. Neat!

He rested his left hand against the base and looked toward the corridor Vargas had used.

Trevor Mach: I lost the first match without tapping. I lost the second one getting pinned. Both had people sticking their hands into things, and everybody saw it. I thought our wagers for the terms of the match would help, but I got played a couple times. At Iwata, Vargas and I got to finish a match ourselves, and I won. That matters to me.

Ted Pettentool: What about the Auditor? He was kept away from ringside for the E1 final. You can't assume he'll stay out of the next match.

Trevor Mach: I'm not assuming anything about him. Or Harrow. Or Snakebite. I've had enough of being surprised by people who keep doing the same thing. I'll prepare for Vargas, and I'll keep track of his friends. Winning this doesn't give me permission to get stupid.

Tali Mach: I'm glad we've said that on television.

Trevor Mach: You can't use everything I say against me.

Tali Mach: I only need a few things. You make it so damn easy!

Trevor Mach: I love you.

Tali Mach: *blushing* OH GOOD FOR YOOOOU!

Joe Bob returned to the desk, giving the trophy a closer look.

Joe Bob Briggs: So let me get this straight. Demon Boogie has lost its number, but Trevor and Vargas have reached part four. We've got an established villain, a returning hero, and a manager everybody wants to see get punched. That ought to keep us occupied.

Trevor Mach: You make it sound like I should be carrying an axe.

Joe Bob Briggs: No need. I've seen what you do with your knees.

Ted Pettentool: Well that does it for our post show update, and we look forward to seeing you all on X for more EBW action next ti- hey wait a minute! I remember hearing something about a wager between you and Tali if you won?

Tali Mach: Oh no.

Ted Pettentool: What was i-

Tali Mach: THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER!

The Mach House

Trevor sat in the bedroom, giddy with excitement later that night, as Tali rolled into the room.

Tali Mach: This is REALLY what you wanted?

Trevor Mach: Tali, you have NO IDEA how much!

Tali Mach: Yeah? Well I have NO IDEA why I do these things for you!

Trevor Mach: Cause you love me and you secretly enjoy making me happy.

Tali Mach: ...Shut up.

Trevor Mach: Don't you mean...honk honk?

Tali Mach: ...

Trevor Mach: Hey, the kids didn't catch you dressed like that, did they? If they enjoyed it...it might make it weird.
